Hello all, I wonder if you'd be so kind as to help clear something up.

Akritas' sole Cry album is a masterpiece and huge favorite of mine.  Can anyone provide comparative info on the cd releases, or impressions of whichever you've heard?

Looking around I see there are three cd releases.  If I have anything wrong, forgive me and correct if you like.

  • Polydor, don't know if it has bonus tracks, Polydor 521 197-2 (1994)
  • Korean mini-lp cd, with bonus tracks, Media Arte Korea (2010)
  • Remaster or re-issue (unclear from internet), don't know if it has bonus tracks, Walhalla WH 90381 (2006)
I didn't even know about that last one until today.  It's on Amazon.

I didn't find anything the Polydor's packaging.  The Korean mini is pictured inside and out by an eBay seller and looks great.  The Walhalla cd is variously referred to as remastered or re-issued, so I don't know what's going on there, nor did I find anything about its packaging.

Furthermore if anyone finds the lp to be far superior I'd like to know.

Thanks!  Or, Ευχαριστώ!

I have only Polydor 521 197-2 (1994) CD, bought in Greece. Sounds good, it has one 33-minutes track, no bonus tracks, all information in the booklet is in Greek.

It seems Korean mini-LP with 2 bonus tracks and booklet in English is a good choice.

I guess original LP is rare and expensive.

No indexes for each song, just one long-track transfer?  Wow.  I wonder why they did that?

I saw the LP in a record store once for I think about $40.  Likely some kind of re-issue (that's almost always what they dealt in, and charged way more for originals), but that store is sadly gone now.

I think because tracks flow one into another, without gaps between them, like on LP.

Little late, but here's my 0.02

The Polydor and Media Arte sound the same. Often Media Arte borrow masterings from other issues, and I think that's what they did on this one. The packaging of the Media Arte is superb, being a nice thick mini lp as they do. The extra tracks are from a single done about the time of the album, in 1973.

I think I would get the Media Arte. As of now it's readily available, has the nice packaging, the bonus tracks, and the individual track sequencing.

I haven't heard the Walhalla.

Todd, long time yes.  But then I haven't posted at all in ages.  I have a good excuse: working on music a lot, it seems every spare minute and every not-so-spare, reading, and taking drum lessons too to go back and fill in my technical deficiencies.

Thank you for the info.  I forgot that I left this post question but I've NEVER lost my interest in that excellent album.  Will purchase it soon.
