I can't speak for Jonas, but I'm pretty sure neither Tony or Mike would go for that band name.  Wink

Not exactly perfect line-ups but for dream super groups:
70s:
Anthony Phillips: Guitar and misc
Michael Rutherford: Bass, Guitar, and misc
John Hackett: Flute
Jon Anderson: Lead vocals
and a slew of guest musicians
So basically a Geese and the Ghost kind of thing but with Jon Anderson on lead vocals.
Modern:
Neal Morse: Lead Vocals, keyboards
Morten Andreas Eriksen or David Zackrisson: Guitar
Nick D'Virgillo: Drums, Backing Vocals
Pete Trewavas: Bass

First of all, welcome to the forum, Delirium.  Just a tip; if you need to see if a topic has been done before, you can use the search function located in the upper right hand corner of any forum page.  Yes, this has been done many times, but I pick totally different strange combos every time, so it doesn't matter to me especially. Big smile

Vocals: Mikael Akerfeldt with Joanne Hogg
Guitar: me
Bass: Victor Wooten
Mellotron 1: What's his face from the Mars Volta, Isaiah Owens or something like that
Mellotron 2: Robert W. Brown Jr.
Mellotron 3: Mike Portnoy
Cello: Yo Yo Ma
Lyrics: Chris Martin
Strange Noises: Toby Driver
Guest rapper: Eminem

No drums Big smile

Genre:  Symphonic folk death metal funk

Headbanger

Oh dear, I'd be thrown out!  Shocked

Portnoy would get kicked out first, as soon as he suggested that he could do growls on a couple of tracks.  Next would be Victor Wooten, for showing off too much.  And Joanne Hogg would leave as soon as Toby started trying to get her into astral projection.  So you'd probably make at least the top 6 Wink.

I don't know who'd be in my band, as long as they played Acid-Skiffle.

Any suggestions?

I have a hard time seeing Fripp and Wetton together without hearing Red (kinda the reason I put them together in mine Big smile).  I wonder how well Fripp and Peart would get along...  If it worked, I'm sure the sounds would be killer!

Guitar: Robert Fripp
Bass: Jaco Pastorius
Drums: Bill Bruford
Keyboards: Keith Emerson, or maybe Patrick Moraz (I suppose they could share, but the music might get a bit cluttered.)
Violin: Jerry Goodman

^ Another MO? Pro'ly another band we could dream about. And I bet Pastorius and Fripp would sound awesome together.

For me, my perfect line-up is the one of Yes on Fragile and Close to the edge, just the best of the best on each instrument.

However, Grace for Drowing last year got me thinking about a plausible great line-up that could be formed this days, perhaps it could even be the new King Crimson:

Robert Fripp on guitars.
Steven Wilson on vocals and guitars.
Jordan Rudess on Keyboards.
Theo Travis on sax and flute.
Tony Levin on bass.
Gavin Harrison on drums.

Dream on...

Some times I have also thought about which could be the ideal PA line-up, and even though I wouldn't agree with every member, I think this might be it:

Vocals: Peter Gabriel.
Guitars: Robert Fripp (though Steve Hackett might just as well be chosen, or even Steve Howe).
Keyboards: Keith Emerson (though Tony Banks might just as well be chosen, or a bit less likely, even Rick Wakeman).
Flute: Ian Anderson (sharing some vocal duties).
Bass: Crhis Squire, sharing some vocal duties.
Drums: Bill Bruford.

When you said "ideal PA lineup," at first I thought you meant a band composed of members of this site!  Which would probably be an interesting topic, too.  You could kick out everyone in my first suggested lineup except for Rob and I, add Phideaux and Smurph, and then a drummer...who plays drums around here?

I agree that was the best ensemble ever with very little that could have been improved from a technical viewpoint.

^ What about general approach to music? Like consideration for melody, harmony, memorability ... are they still the best? Not that I'm questioning those things ... just asking ... ?
