I thought Machu Picchu was really good, but it still sounds a bit different from their earlier stuff. I'd recommend it if you're okay with a bit more polishing on your TD.

How about the live albums such as the brilliant Pergamon and the majestic Poland ? They are quite tasty !
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

3 Tangerine albums:

Force Majeure (1979)
Tangram (1980)
Exit (1981)

all beautifull and different imo

Exit gets overlooked because it has shorter less complex peices but nevertheless I still reckon its one of their strongest albums with a new sleeker approach perhaps down to their relatively new member Johannes Schmoelling (btw the 'definitive edition remastered CD's of Tangram and Exit wrongly credits Peter Baumann as still being in TD when he had left about 4 years earlier!) .

Lazland, judging by your tastes I would say stay the hell away from their first 3 albums. I am also not surprised that you enjoy Force Majuere. Not many live or 'later' suggestions yet but I second Ricochet and you should also check out Logos from the '80s. Tell me you don't like this:

If you liked Rubicon then Ricochet is a live recording of their "Electronic Music" style that I think surpasses Rubicon.

For a change in style, Force Majeure and Cyclone are more Progressive Rock and I'd recommend those too (but primarily Force Majeure).

I would go as far as the 220 Volt Live ... album ... but yeah ... those early days are best. Atem/Phaedra/Rubycon/Live in the USA/Ricochet/Force Majeure/Cyclone/Hyperborea ... and such ...are all fabulous albums ... I would even suggest getting them in order so you can get a massive idea how the synthesizers improved and all that.

In the middle of it, get something like Edgar Froese's Aqua ... and see these synths in their most primeval and fun and sometimes when I hear it today, so simple that it is nuts! ... but it tells you that these folks were really studying and learning what synths could do ... and probably were at the fore front of most synthesizer makers out there!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

^ I prefer Epsilon in Malaysian Pale to Aqua, but there's not that much in it to be honest.

One thing I should point out that is oft overlooked (or understated) is that TD is not an Electronic Music group - they certainly use synths and sequencers but pretty much all of their albums have acoustic instruments such as piano, guitar, flute, drums, horns, harpsicord etc.
What?

Stratosfear is my favourite TD album - in fact one of my favourite albums of all time. Very wise of you to seek recommendations though because they have produced some terrible albums(especially in the latter years) that are nothing more than bland, tedious muzak.  They are the best of bands and they are the worst of bands.

My vote for Poland, too. It is a favorite of mine next to Ricochet. I just got into TD last autumn Tongue It's been a nice journey for sure.
You love the music, the music loves you!

As you like neo-prog, try some eighties stuff :
Tangram
Le Parc
White Eagle
Hyperborea
OST for Legend (Brian Ferry sings on one song, Jon Anderson on another one)
OST for Wavelength
OST for The Park is mine
OST for Miracle mile
Underwater sunlight

So, to all you prog electronic fans, which three albums would you recommend to me? Is the later stuff worthwhile?

First start with their entire discography, then get thee to a poorhouse. LOL

FYI, I didn't see it listed on this site yet but Canyon Dreams and Oasis are available on DVD.  They're both images rather than band performance videos.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

^ Phaedra, while excellent, maybe a little too somber as an introduction to TD.

It's hardly an introduction if he has an album of theirs already :P

Better than Electronic Meditation, which was my first TD album Cool

edit: not "better," but "better for him"

Strange women? I'm game.

As others have said, Zeit is probably best saved for a while...it's my favorite for sure, but it's very abstract and spacy.

My favorite is Electronic Meditations. I would also suggest Klaus Schulze's first solo album Moondawn.
