I was listening to the new Diablo Swing Orchestra and it occurred to me that "Voodoo Mon Amour" might be a "proggy" (somewhat!) song that would do well on Saturday Night Live.  Very peppy; even danceable.

What thinks you?  Any other prog bands/songs that wouldn't be booed off the stage on SNL?  (Yes, I know Radiohead has appeared already.)

Too easy.

The Mars Volta

Pain of Salvation has the music to do it, but you know Gildenlow would totally pull a Sinead O'Conner.

Zappa played on SNL once. Although apparently the SNL cast didn't like him because he was anti-drug. Tool might be able to play on SNL as well. I concur on the Mars Volta, as well.

in the 80s & 90s you actually had Prog artists on SNL, or near-Prog: I recall Dave Gilmour, Peter Gabriel, Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, these days the musical guests on the show are frequently awful, it's a shame.

Deathspell Omega.

Fine fine yeah I agree with Jon Knifeworld, and most other Cardiacs related projects and Cardiacs themselves I think would fit. Maybe Wha-Ha-Ha. Freaky Japanese sh*t can always work.

I think A.C.T would be a perfect match.

I'd wager the Diablo Swing Orchestra would be lots of fun to watch.

I agree on Knifeworld.
Not sure about TMV.  Certainly they have a fairly large fan-base.  But it seems to me they are both too aggressive and too "weird" for SNL.  But perhaps not!

Seriously though, I was going to say Sigur Ros, but figured they'd be too delicate and atmospheric for a show like SNL. They are quite accessible though, but lack the groove and upbeat I suppose a show like that would require.Umphrey's McGee, maybe? Phish?
