Hey! I'm going to see Neal Morse in his Momentum tour on October. I'm really exited about it, but I don't know how are his shows, are they great? Or not that much. Also how long are them normally? I'm looking forward because this is my first time I'll go to a Neal Morse concert! Big smile
Playing a three-hour Rush show is like running a marathon while solving equations.

if you subtrack all the time taken to mention "Jebus and his merry men" - it would last about 10 minutes.....Tongue
Play me my song.....Here it comes again.......

Indeed Neal's shows are usually quite long.
I have only seen him with his European band in the Lifeline tour (plus a couple of times with Spock's), they are good but I would have preferred seeing him with the US band.
And I have the DVDs of Testimony and Sola Scriptura tours.

His voice can be a bit rough depending on the day, when he tours extensively you can really notice that his voice gets deteriorated.

If you can forgive him for the religious talk they are great shows.

What are the two things that people don't want to hear at a concert? Politics and religion.

Why oh why do artists have to share these thoughts with us?

I don't mind people's opinions, in fact they can be quite interesting if you take them seriously Tongue Even if your own view of things is completely different.
You love the music, the music loves you!

I saw him in Tenn, the first show on the Testimony 2 tour. It was an incredible show. The shows are long, but I remember seeing that on this tour it'll be like a 2 hour deal. Morse is also an incredible showman, he's so much fun to watch from his energy and passion. His constant switching between instruments is cool too!

I just saw him last week and his show was outstanding.  I figure that I will make the 6 hour drive to Nashville to see the opening Momentum concert.  Obviously, I think his live shows are amazing.  Typically, you can expect his concerts to last 3 hours (or more).  I doubt he'll play that long at the Chicago show though as there are two other bands on the ticket for that night (Three Friends and District 97).

+2.......I look at it as part of his passion for the music he creates, I don't mind the faith views at all. We don't say the same thing when an artist mocks, makes fun of, complains and hides their displeasure of religious views in a song......We generally applaud that as "clever".

Hey,
Recently Mood Indigo(a college festival in India) announced Neal Morse Band featuring Mike Portnoy as their headliners. I have attended a few concerts at the same festival in the past which were Porcupine Tree, Katatonia and Karnivool.

Although I have heard a lot about Mike Portnoy because of Dream Theater, I don't have any knowledge of Neal's music.

How are Neal's concert? Do they have an emotional connect like that of Katatonia's? I would attend the concert because of Mike but would love to explore the music of Neal as well.

P.S.: I just got a chance to listen to The Temple of Living God by Neal and loved the same.

Hi Confused prog

If you look on Youtube for the whole "Sola Scriptura and Beyond" film (about 3 hours in total) you'll get a good idea of what to expect.

I've only seen Neal perform once with his band, and it was a one hour set as part of a 3 band show, but I loved it. Portnoy is a real character too!
