I'm gonna go with Phil Shulman. My reasoning is because my favourite albums is when he was in the band. I also understand he was very much a driving force when in the group and wrote some of the most poetic and complex lyrics in modern music. Then it's neck and neck with ray and kerry for out and out musicality

If I was going for pure musicmanship/composition/virtiousity I would definitely go with Kerry, but I voted for Gary as my overall favorite member.

Kerry, hands down. He is sexy (at least he was), very skillful, and very talented. Plus, I love his singing. I like it much better than Derek's.

Crap. I was going to go straight for Kerry but I just love Gary's guitar sound so SO much on Three Friends.
I'm going to have to take some time off work to think about this. |

I think Kerry was the glue that kept them on the road to their particular style with his classical training and arranging skills. Also an incredible keyboardist and emotive vocalist.
The rest of the band are all respected virtuosos as well but if I have to pick only one : Kerry.

Kerry Minnear, but Ray Shulman is a close second.
