The blurb is excellent, imo >

'Prepare yourself for an experience that’s simultaneously otherworldly and assaultive. On paper, the music of Guapo reads like a riddle – the British quartet’s sound is based around ideas like controlled chaos, atonal harmony, uplifting darkness, and beautiful destruction. Nothing about the band or their work seems to adhere to even the most open-minded set of preconceptions about the meaning of umbrella terms like “rock,” or “progressive,” or even “experimental.” But when you abandon the need to reconcile any of these concepts with each other, and simply let their latest album, History of the Visitation, speak for itself, everything becomes radiantly clear.'

I am a definite fan of this amazing band!
Their earlier noise rock stuff get overlooked, and that stuff is pretty awesome and crazy.
Check their song Chongo.
I have to order that album as I am full of excitement!
I hope they really tour america.

Well just watched the DVD and listened to the CD for the first time tonight. Stunningly good, wonderfully heavy edgy dissonant instrumental rock.

Fabulous.

Thinking of picking that bad boy up on vinyl.  Never heard them before except for the sample on Wayside.   But I liked what I heard.

They are quite an excellent investment.  Does the vinyl of the new album come with the DVD as well?  It's some pretty sweet live music.

Guapo's is certainly the one I'm looking forward to hear the most out of the new Cunies batch...and the next one I'll be buying.

HotV definitely surpassed my expectations. With O'Sullivan out of the band they take yet another new direction but equals the intense and thunderous sound of Black Oni and 5 Suns. I find it more dynamic and less 'retro' but yet again there isn't a single dull moment here, supported greatly by the new line-up (lead guitar parts are far more prominent and awesome than earlier). Current rating would be 4.5/5 for the main album!

I revisited their first four albums yesterday.  Since I had been introduced to Guapo through Five Suns, the four early albums sounded a bit crappy on first listen, and most appraisals I've read seem to dismiss these four albums out of hand.  But this time I liked them much more, some of them anyway.  Quick summary:

Towers Open Fire - sounded more like a noise rock album, post-hardcore like Slint's first album, or early Jesus Lizard.  Not really prog at all, but I like that style of music and this album held its own in that arena.  Most of the songs had vocals I recall.  So I enjoyed it, but it really doesn't sound like the Guapo most of us know.

Hirohito - a bit more complex and much closer to their later sound, but still not particularly striking apart from a few tracks.  The last track is an untitled track with 10 minutes of lovely nature sounds.  Decent.

Death Seed - Not sure what happened here, but this one is almost completely devoid of structure.  Sounds like a formless avant jam with everyone trying especially hard not to make any melodious sounds.  Maybe this is a grower, but it sure was unpleasant yesterday while I was working at my desk.

Great Sage, Equal of Heaven -- This did feel like a prequel to Five Suns, in a way.  A lot of the same sonic elements are in place.  It lacks the epic "bigness" of that album, but this is one that "Five Suns" fans could prob check out without being repelled.
