For the record, I don't think they are particularly proggy......BUT, I went to see them live a couple of weeks ago, and can confirm that they are most definitely EXCELLENT!

But why would we simply include acts because of how influential they were, rather than their actual style of music? In that case, we should be getting Beethoven and Wagner on here

Yes, but both Black Sabbath, Budgie and BOC had a huge impact on rock music in general, which is something that can't be said about Ghost. Acts who do get in in PR, should have this facet to them, or at the least be very influential in one way or another.

^Well, but still we have Heavy Prog and Prog-Related categories, full of bands with very scarce touches with prog. I wouldn't say that Black Sabbath or Blue Oyster Cult or Budgie are so prog, but still they're presented here.So Ghost looks much more acceptable for prog site than Sabbath or Aviv Geffen.

I get what you are saying, but by that definition we would have a vast ocean of acts on here with nothing to do with prog.
Ghost incorporate whiffs of 'prog' into their style yes, but at the core of the music, you find balls-to-the-walls heavy rock. That is essentially what the band is about, at least to these ears. |

Well, I cardinally don't understand how one could call 'not prog' a six minutes-long song with choral vocals and unconventional song structure (C-C-A-B-C-A-B-guitar solo-D-B instead of A-B-A-B-bridge-solo-A-B), and I won't even mention about unique sounding itself. And it's even not thier most complex/unusual one. |

For me they're no less prog than many already added artists in heavy prog category. So I completely support their inclusion. |

I think they would be a good fit for heavy prof or prog related.

Second album streaming in its entirety: http://pitchfork.com/advance/67-infestissumam/
Proggiest than the first, but still not sure it manages to open the door for them. Oh, and also awesome!

Two singles from the upcoming second album:
Don't care much for the first, but the second one is an absolute killer song. Also, boobies. Still don't hear much prog in them, though.

I think they would fit well into heavy prog. They don't have the twenty minute songs angle of prog, but their sound pallette fits the bill.

Amazing band with one amazing album, but not Prog. The aptly named song Genesis is the closest they come to it.

Love these guys, saw 'em live, have their album, and am a big fan, but they wouldn't be accepted here. They're retro hard rock with a modern metal twinge.

Ghost played with Mastodon and Opeth on Heritage Hunter Tour, so they are at least merely related to prog
Anyway, they're going to release their second album soon, as far as I am aware of, so think we should wait for it. Maybe there would be more progressiveness on it. |

Nice stuff indeed, but like Alex here, I fail to hear the prog. Hard rock with extended soloing and the odd experimental bridge is what I get.
So, sadly, no cigar.

I'm listening through this as we speak and I'm loving this album. The melodies and style are simply amazing. That said, I don't honestly see this as particularly prog or even related. Merely my opinion though.
