Experimental Quintet (also known as Experimental Q or Experimental Quartet in the 1970s) is a Romanian Jazz Fusion band, who first formed in the 70's and released an LP "Flowers", release date unknown, and "Aminitiri despre Viitor" (Memories of the Future) in 1976. These releases met with some success in Progressive Rock circles and are no longer available, but the material of "Amintitiri despre Viitor" has now been resurrected in a new release in November 2012 by Soft Records entitled "Atlantis".   This release has come over 33 years after the quintet split up, following a "Reunion after 33 years" project In August in Bucharest.

As the name suggests, the band was originally a quintet and has kept it's name despite the absence of flute player Gigi Marcovici.  The band now consists of Eugen Tunaru (keyboards), Valentin Farcas (guitar), Nicolae Bucaciuc (bass) and Dominic Csergo (drums) - former member of Kumm, now with alternative rock band Urma.

I was delighted to see this album released as Experimental Quintet are highly regarded in the Romanian Prog rock community and have made a valuable contribution to the genre.  Although the production could be improved, I think this is a very good album and well worth listening to.

Wow, impressive stuff. I'd say a mix of avant, jazz, folk, and symphonic, which makes them a shoe-in for eclectic.

Excellent - thank you for taking an interest!!  I would also like to see them here too, either in Jazz Fusion or Eclectic, though having heard their   "Aminitiri despre Viitor" material I would say that they veer towardsJazz Fusion.

Any news about this? Does it stays with Jazz/Rock fusion or does it take the Eclectic road?

^ Thanks!  Still only one vote so far in Eclectic, but it's a 'yes' vote, so maybe this new source of samples will help move things forward. I've dropped your link into their team thread.  Thumbs Up
