I got into prog a few months ago, and started out with the more well known bands like Genesis, King Crimson, and Yes. Eventually, I dug deeper into obscurity. Now, I feel like I'm running out of prog music.

For some reason, I can't post new topics in any board other than here. It says I don't have permission. What do I have to do?

Well, if you listen to every kind of prog, I assure you'll have music to listen to every day for about 20 years. What have you been listening to lately?
Enfim, que resta ao fim, senão a inquietação e a mim.

And not just within the prog realm but outside of prog ... ? If you enjoy jazz, we have Miles, Hancock, and such. Is it folk? We have Pentangle and others.

Recently, I've been getting more into prog metal, with Dream Theater, Ayreon, BtBaM, and Opeth. Currently though, I mostly listen to classic symphonic prog bands. My favorite albums are the Snow Goose, Tarkus, Hamburger Concerto, Hot Rats, Foxtrot, Octopus, TAAB, Leftoverture, Larks's Tongues in Aspic, Autobahn, Script for a Jester's Tear, Meddle, 2112, Third, Pawn Hearts, and Close to the Edge. I have a few modern prog bands, like Transatlantic, Beardfish, and Porcupine Tree. I'm also starting to get into jazz fusion, with Miles Davis's Bitches Brew. I find that I really like long songs, both prog and non-prog. Any recommendations?

I sampled these albums, and they're all great. What I'm interested in is more modern prog.

Nice to meet you thepanda56 Handshake Smile

The bands you mentioned above are some of my all-time favorites too Approve (most of their albums).

I do try my best to keep up (it's my curious nature) with what else new is out there, this interests me, also including precious gems from the 70's bands or songs which I never heard before.

I personally cannot keep up with it all, Confused there's so much great music out there, mainly due to the internet.

When I listen to something suggested by a friend or on a forum or a radio show and their music clicked with me (I feel and know immediately when like or love something I hear) I do get excited/happy Big smile and feel an urge to hear more, also need to find out what/when/how/who it is all about plus I find myself returning to listen over and over again to the tracks that grabbed me the most, enjoying it while at the time also feeling a need to discuss or share with others the same experience I am feeling.

Enough waffling on my side sorry, Unhappy all I meant to say that I have not even begun to scratch the surface of knowing most albums/bands in this industry however I am very happy and thrilled when I find something I really like. Approve yep Big smile

Again, thanks and friendly regards,

Sonia/Kati Smile

For new prog, maybe these ones :
Seventh Wonder ('mercy falls')
Spastic Ink ('ink complete')
Astra ('the black chord')
Titan ('a raining sun of light...')
Ship of fools ('let's get this mother outta here')
Mastodon ('Leviathan')
The Gourishankar ('2nd hands')
IZZ ('I move')
ARC ('Arcturus') - electronic music
Ghost ('Opus Eponymous') well if you are into stoner or traditional heavy metal (Black Sabbath and Blue Öyster Cult are in PA), you could be interested in this one
IONA ('the book of kells' and 'beyond these shores')
"Magma was the very first gothic rock band" (Didier Lockwood)

Maybe try out Big Big Train, their singer kinda sounds like Phil Collins. Really, they're an excellent band.

I always must recommend Anubis - A Tower of Silence.

Also try these bands:
Gazpacho
Anathema
Riverside
Ancestors
Diagonal
District 97
Edison's Children
Nooumena
Sky Architect
Tune

If you're up for some post-rock:
Battlestations
Tangled Thoughts of Leaving
Sioum

Except for Anathema, these are all "post-2000" bands.

Try Mostly Autumn (first 3 albums), from the names you posted sounds like you might like them. Here's a taste:

Bigger on the inside.
