Hi,
ZOLTAN is a fantastic synth+drums trio from London. Their debut album, "First Stage Zoltan", came out on CD and LP in 2012 on the Cineploit label. (I ordered my copy from Syn-Phonic, but I understand that Cineploit has numerous distributors.) Incidentally, I first heard of them because ASTRA (the band) posted about them on Facebook. From the label's web site: First full length by London´s Synth Prog Unit ZOLTAN "First Stage ZOLTAN" contains six tracks of menacing chordal sweeps, cinematic synthscapes and relentless, angular rhythms. If Michael Mann ever remade “Zombie Holocaust” the soundtrack might sound something like this. For fans of Goblin, Rush, Zombi and John Carpenter. This band is great and deserves to be included here. Great debut album, enjoying it a lot with a connection to Guapo
From Wayside blurb:- This is the first release by a new UK trio featuring Andrew Prestridge and Andy and Matt Thompson. The group uses all analog keyboard (synths, mellotrons, etc), bass, guitar and drums. The band are obviously influenced by darker progressive rock soundtracks from the 70s, most notably Goblin and have a similar feel/are also influenced by other more modern bands in that vein/influenced by that vein, such as Zombi, Morte Macabre and Guapo.... ...Some of you will immediately recognize Matt Thompson as one co-founders of Guapo and a member of the group during which time they made "Five Suns" and "Black Oni" and *I* remember the band telling me how they were lucky to get a mellotron to use on these recordings from Matt's brother, who was a keyboardist with a huge stack of great, old-style gear. Well, here is Matt in a new band (admittedly in more 'homage' vein than 'exploratory' vein) with his brother and his brothers huge stack of gear! Really great and fun. |

Very good stuff. A bit of a darker sounding Zombi. Yes from me, I'll run it by Philippe.

Come to think of it, the team really ought to consider Cineploit's entire roster of artists, as they're all working in similar territory. I really like the jazzy drumming in this SOSPETTO track:
