Topic: ABB's Random Recent Purchase Poll - vol 01 Posted: March 16 2013 at 04:07
Hey there all!
I've been waiting for a reason to make my first prog poll, so decided the lazy option was to list a few albums I've recently acquired, some I've heard, some not yet. Pretty sure they're all 70's albums this time?
But I'd like to know what listeners think of any of the above, so please post opinions and suggestions releated to these!

Only know Deep End and UFO, of which I like UFO much more.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

I like `UFO', but I kind of prefer the dirty grooves they'd develope on their albums after this one! Still, I'm enjoying it more and more with each play!
Dave, I realy dig the `Samurai' album, so the `I Spider' one is coming along nicely too. Man, those vocals are....something else lol!

Hoodoo Man is a good album indeed, but not as good as Plastic People or Backdoor Possibilities. I don't know why but I never got into Guru Guru, maybe some day.... I know Isotope and Wallenstein but not those albums. I guess I should check out Deep End because I really like Illusion.
Anyway from this list I guess I'll go with The Web. Can't go wrong with this classic jam.

Erm yeah those vocals eh?
Guru Guru to me personally were always about Mani's drumming anyways - so when the elastic band of the music is so loose and and untethered as it is on UFO, you really don't get that same sense of his pattern skills, if you will. He is a true genius in knitting little impossible to play grooves together, and that aspect of his playing does tend to be more empowering during the band's fusion inspired stints. They're still heavily psychedelic, but there's that jazzy infusion as well that I really dig.
Also, they did a lot of experimenting with LSD and acid in general. You can really hear that on UFO. It's got a fragmented soul to show for it.

Yep. I prefer Plastic people too. I like the symphonic shading it has, whilst still being balls to the walls heavy and psychedelic.
Gotta love the art work too

True that, and it reminds me of the Cosmic Jokers debut which also has a fragmented soul.

Great poll, Michael! My choice is definitely Wallenstein's Stories,Songs and Symphonies. One of those timeless albums that is so good, i never tire of it. It has all the ingredients that make for a great Wallenstein record. My runner up would be the Isotope record, which is really well done. Never heard Hoodoo Man, but love Birth Control, especially Rebirth and Increase, the latter having a tribute song for Helmut Koellen on it!(We All Thought We Knew You)

I noticed a few of you guy's mentioned that you hadn't head the Bram Stoker - Schizo-Poltergeist/Heavy Rock Spectacular album, so here's two samples from it.
Doug, I really get a feeling you'd like this album!
Easiest comparison I have would be similar to Atomic Rooster with a slightly occult tone and heaps of swirling organ, but more classical influences worked in, so maybe like The Nice?

I only know about half of these, but I'll vote for Birth Control because overpopulation is a serious problem todayit was looking lonely without any votes it's a good album that I enjoy
