Hi - just joined a few hours ago. And was steered to this thread by Aussie-Bird-Brother (thanks!)
I first got into Canterbuy about 6 or so years ago... I was listening to Camel at the time almost continuously for about a year (there really isn't a dud in the entire discography, but I probably listen to Nude slightly less than the others) and started noticing some interesting things going on with Rain Dances and Breathless... and started wondering, "Who is this Richard Sinclair guy?"
Anyway, you can probably guess where that went! (slightly off-topic - but why is RSVP so insanely expensive?)
Love Caravan - everything I've heard anyway (which is probably everything from the 70s except Blind Dog and The New Symphonia - Front to Back shows promise too) - from there I ventured into Soft Machine territory (I like One/Three better than Two - esp Moon in June - have yet to check out much beyond that), got really into Steve Hillage, Egg; Fish Rising, Space Shanty and Arzachel spent a solid year alternating in my car's CD player. I've checked out Matching Mole and Hatfield and the North but haven't spent enough time appreciating either group. I'm interested in In Cahoots, National Health and Gong. I want to check out some of Ayer's solo stuff. I recently purchased Phil Miller's "Split Second" after reading a few things on the forums.
Anyway - just wanted to drop in to say I really have and continue to appreciate the music of (and related to) the Canterbury scene

Enjoy your Canterbury visit, Sncrdn, plenty of recommendations, likes/dislikes (VERY few dislikes lol!) and observations! The last Phil Miller album I got was (ohh, mental blank, I think it's called) `Cutting Both Ways', picked it up a year or two back at a local record fair when my buddy Tom Ozric (he's all over this thread too) recommended I snap it up! I've only recently dug it out to listen to again, can't wait to give it a new spin. From what I remember, it was damn good, if some of the production was a little cold. Likely my imagination, I'll be listening with fresh ears very soon

It's uncanny how similar your path to Canterbury was to my own. I almost thought I was reading my own story. Except mine happened about 25 years ago and not 6; but it happened the same way - listening to Camel and finding out more about R. Sinclair's past. Welcome to the forum!

I own no compilations, only albums.
The best in my opinion is Whatevershebringswesing with the sinister Song from the Bottom of the Well and the anthem "Stranger in Blue Suede Shoes".
The album is less experimental than Joy of a Toy and Shooting at the Moon but way more enjoyable. I started from there.
Another overlooked one is Bananamour: guest on guitar Steve Hillage (on the superb Decadence).

Thanks! Wow - that IS uncanny. I don't think it would have happened for me 25 years ago... I would of been about 9 and my disposable income somewhat limited

MGP rock, although I only have their debut LP. I thought they were listed under Zeuhl at one stage ?? More Canterbury than Zeuhl - reminds me a bit of Lagger Blues Machine for some reason.
Heard a song at work today by 'The Modern Lovers' (?) and to my surprise, there was a Canterburian organ solo in it !! Their keyboardist was one Gerry Harrison  !!! Gotta love fuzz-box organ...................
