Prog albums that always make me laugh or smile...I was amazed I found so many, here they are...

Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica ("Fast and Bulbous")
Echolyn - As the World
Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy
Ethos - Open Up (the laughing intro to "Pimp City" always cracks me up)
Genesis - Spot the Pigeon (Match of the Day and Pigeons especially)
Giles Giles & Fripp - The Cheerful Insanity of Giles Giles & Fripp (The Saga of Rodney Toady)
Gong - Camembert Electrique
Hatfield of the North - The Rotters Club
IQ - The Lost Attic (the song "My Legs" = ROTFL)
King Crimson - Live in Detroit 1971 (King Crimson Collecters Club CD - when they play the 12-bar blues version of In the Court... I can't stop laughing)
Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn (whimsical Syd always makes me smile)
Primus - Frizzle Fry (how can you listen to Les Claypool sing and not feel good?)
Queen - A Night at the Opera (you know the opera part is coming...wait for it...wait for it)
Soft Machine - Volumes I & II (singing the alphabet backwards is always a good laugh)
Twelfth Night - Live and Let Live
Yezda Urfa - Sacred Baboon
Zappa -
Absolutely Free ("what a vegetable)
Uncle Meat ("I'm using the chicken to measure it")
Mystery Disk ("We're doing a play...")
Fillmore East, June 1971 ("...juked by a baby octupus and spewed upon with creamed corn")

In general Mike Oldfield has more albums that make me happy than any other artist. There is both a seriousness and playfullness that comes across at times. Amarok sticks out most in that respect. That would be my ultimate 'happy' album. Not sure I could do a list that includes a load of different artists in truth.

Yeah, especially "Dress Rehearsal Rag"; perfect for playing on Christmas morning.

that's a razor in his mit;
and he puts on his dark glasses
and he shows you where to hit;

You gotta love that sh*t.

You know what makes me happy actually is CURRENT 93's BLOOD DOG RISING.
f**k. I kid. That is the scariest sh*t I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Wow.
But seriously, I think I'll add ARENA's PEPPERS GHOST. it's such a fantastic tale. :)

Good news: This is in the General Music Discussions lounge. Bad news: I don't know a single thoroughly happy album. Ta-da-a-a-a-a.

OK, after looking over this list and much pondering, the list below is based on the consistency of happiness, so ... (in no fracking order):

Early Beatles may be your best bet:

The Beatles - Please Please Me
The Beatles - With the ...
The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night

Then, there are:

Holger Czukay - Movies
Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets
Yes - The Yes Album
Camel - Breathless
Gentle Giant - Three Friends

And how does one forget Devo?

Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo

EDIT: That's nine ... Ermm ... tenth would be Egg - Egg.

Not really prog, but Bjork's 'Debut' certainly lifts the spirits with her exuberant vocals, particularly the ultra-uplifting "One Day". Even a tune with sad lyrics like "Crying" seems strangely joyful.

OOIOO's 'Gold and Green' has a pretty happy vibe.

Some Yes albums have a generally cheerful disposition, such as 'The Yes Album' and certain tracks from 'Time And A Word' for sure ("Sweet Dreams", the title track).

To list ten...gotta think about that.

Maybe the subject matter might not be the happiest, but these albums put a smile on my face everytime I finish listening to them.

1) Rush--Grace Under Pressure
2) Tangerine Dream--Stratovarius
3) OSI--Free
4) Kevin Moore--Shine
5) Dream Theater-- A Dramatic Turn of Events
6) Fates Warning--Inside Out
7) Zombi--Spirit Animal
8) IQ-- The Seventh House
9) Shamall--This is human Behaviour
10) Iron Maiden--Brave New World

* should note that I associate triumph and breakthrough a lot with musical happiness. Lots more I could add, but these albums stand out quite a bit for me right now. :)
