I bet somebody once said "No" to such things as Math Rock many years ago.  LOL
Dance Prog (by whatever name) is coming someday....

I find "Going For The One" and "Parallels" (both by Yes) to be quite toe tapping.
He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball!

Superconductor, anyone?

A strong and simple beat - That you can dance to

Several songs from the Presto/Roll the Bones era seem to me like good danceable pieces: Face Up, Where's My Thing, Hand Over Fist, Roll the Bones, Scars (if you want to do some African dance thing); even Leave That Thing alone from Counterparts.  Rush has got groove, man.

While at work, my fellow employees claim I look like I'm having a seizure because my whole body gets going.  It doesn't matter what album: I really get into it.

I think I remember seeing an article on something called Happy Prog, which I think was related to House and Electronic music. I also assume you can dance to it.

Let me make this clear

I DONT DANCE
Maybe if the Queen asked me to dance I would make an exception and get down on the dance floor with her.
Here's lesser known Amon Duul II track that maybe you could dance to. But I wouldn't really know because I don't dance.

There's an album called Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven.  I assume that any dance technique involving a lifting of the fists would go well with the album.

Actually, slow dancing to Available Light would be awesome.

Heresy would fit the bill even better - if it weren't for the lyrics LOL

I was just watching Peter Gabriel Secret World Live DVD and everyone was dancing. I prefered when he dressed up as fruit of the loom or an asexual fox. Dancing? At the high school dances we would go to the sock hops just so we had an excuse to drink beer and smoke dope  in back of the gymnasium away from all the dancing. Dancing? Just makes me sick. Don't you guys play sports or work on cars? Dancing?Confused

Between your review and a magazine review I read recently of the latest Daft Punk album, which made me think they might be turning progesque, I wonder if there's some sort of new subgenre beginning to coalesce? Prog Dance? Dance Prog?
Are we all in the NO camp?  Or might there someday be such a subgenre as Prog Dance or Dance Prog?  There are plenty of examples (not on PA yet) of dance music with prog tendencies.

Why not?  Personally, I would love to have a genre of dance music that was functionally conducive to dancing but also musically interesting in it's own right.  It would probably just end up under progressive electronic, though.

Autechre, Aphex Twin, UFO and Future Sound of London all have a dance element to their music with major prog tendencies.

I.D.M is progressive at times. ;)

Not necessarily - such a thing as Dance Prog could include the quirkier end of disco & funk, and psychedelic soul too.
