And quick! It's taking much too long to get this phoenix risen from the ashes of RATIONAL DIET onto PA! THis is the best album, best new music of 2013--BY FAR!!!

Belorussian avant-prog group Rational Diet began an ambitious agenda at the start of 2011, but by the time the bandmembers exited the studio after a series of recording sessions lasting until February of the following year, the group -- or at least Rational Diet as a band name -- was no more. Instead, February 2012 marked the formal founding of a new band, Five-Storey Ensemble, featuring several principal members of Rational Diet. There was also some apparent dissension in the ranks, and another group featuring ex-Rational Diet members who had participated in the sessions -- the Archestra -- emerged at roughly the same time. So while fans of these creative musicians might have lamented the passing of one inventive Rock in Opposition-influenced band, there were now two groups in its place, with the chamber classical Five-Storey Ensemble first out of the gate with the debut recording Not That City, although with a head start of only a month before the more electric rockish Archestra came out with an album of their own, Arches. http://www.allmusic.com/artist/five-storey-ensemble-mn0003097895 |

Rational Diet stripped of its electric instrumentation, experimentation and zaniness. Sounds mostly like chamber classical to me.

Five-Storey Ensemble were rejected for RIO two months ago.
As far as I can tell Archestra were never submitted.

I posted some Youtube vids of Archestra in the RIO Team thread. Archestra is pretty much standard RIO, they should probably be added. IMNSHO.

Anyway, we must evaluate with one entire album ... it's fine if someone can send us more samples via PM. |

I would argue that there are Chamber Rock bands in the RIO section here who do not rock any harder than Five Storey Ensemble. Aranis, Julverne, & Pikapika Teart to name but three.

Some links relating to The Archestra (this appears to be the band where Rational Diet's rockier side has become manifested), including a few samples
(sorry - I don't have the album )

PT certainly is more rock than FSE. As for Aranis...Roqueforte probably has enough to cover them (but I agree that before that I would say they didn't belong). Don't know Julverne so I can't comment on them. Either way, just because one act was added it doesn't effect other acts being added. |

Wow. Wow... I got FSE, Roqueforte and Clivages on the same day and pondered the similarities immediately. I just blindly assumed that FSE was here. I guess there's naught to do about it, but I find it amazing (and disappointing) that they were rejected. And here I voted for them for one of my top prog albums of 2013! Oh the humanity!

Having said all that I'm not losing any sleep over whether or not FSE are in or out, it's all down to the selection teams process. I just find it a bit arbitrary.

The Archestra is under evaluation. Sounds very promising for me via their videoclips above.

Sorry to be so persistent--I still can't find my way around this web-site--couldn't find this 'original' thread--Till now--so I started another. Sorry.
Sorry to hear that Not That City was rejected. Weird place, this PA. Some of the non-rock oriented music present here--not to mention the bands that did one 'proggy' album that are now included--with their entire discography, prog or no--and yet a band descended from the likes of Rational Diet's legacy won't be coat-tailed in. Mystifying. Lesson be learned: Don't ever get rid of your drum kit, electric guitar and electric bass (all of which are present on Not That City!)
