I agree, I love Nektar.
I don't think Roye Albrighton gets the recognition he deserves as:
Lead Singer
Main Songwriter
Lead Guitarist
Wow!
Recycled & Remember The Future are classic prog recordings.
Though I voted, I will say I love all three bands, this is like saying which do you prefer?

This, I think they are all quite average and over-hyped.

Ok. To me this poll is not even fair. Rush slays these other bands! No question. Rush gets my vote by a very long shot. :)

Haven't heard any Nektar, but I've been meaning to... I love Kansas. The 5-album run is stellar. But Rush absolutely takes the cake. They're practically the band that got me into prog. They earn my vote.

I think that the 'live in studio' album 'Sounds Like This...' is quite the heavy affair. Roye shreds like a mofo. Great band.
I have many Rush albums, and a couple of Kansas too, but Nektar has the edge over them.

Rush for me. Kansas is also a fantastic band, but they've never been able to recapture the glory of their heyday. I can't get into Nektar.

WTF
Why is this kind of hard to decide... each band has notable flaws, yet I can't seem to weigh it out.

Rush.
Not really impressed by Kansas; not bad but far from great. Nektar too are just OK.

Kansas. I much prefer their albums to Rush and Nektar. They are much more to my taste prog wise. Rush blows them out of the water instrumentally, but I prefer the vocals of Kansas. I can't get into Nektar at all though I've tried several times.

Went with Kansas.....have to support the US bands aftrer all.
But...I'm also a fan of both Rush and Nektar.....but I don't hear this 'heavy prog' element in Nektar that people often bring up. Indeed they are listed as psychedelic space rock by the team here at PA.

Didn't Nektar make it huge on the US AM radio for some pop songs in the late 70s, early 80s?

Even I'm a marginal fan, my vote must be for Nektar.

I agree that this is a great album. They should have made Larry Fast a permanent member, but then would we have had his great work in Synergy and with Peter Gabriel?
As to the poll, I voted for Kansas. In the long run, their output is inconsistent, but they have still done enough great work to be placed among Prog's very best.
