Aw yes! This what I'm saying. I love, love Meshuggah, and it's about time one of these threads sprung up again. Just too many incredible tunes, it hard to skim it down. True innovation, master musicianship, these guys are monsters. Love 'em.

Top 1 Meshuggah tune (from the handful I own / have heard) - possibly Dancers To A Discordant System, maybe the original version of Cadaverous Mastication ( the Psykisk Testbild version - which one day I'll own on 12"), or perhaps The Last Vigil..............
Haven't got enough to make a top-ten, but I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to compile a top-20 for this amazing band........
Really surprised there's not much admiration for these guys........

^ Not Dancers ???? Wow...........
Yes, I Am Colossus is insanely BRILLIANT. There's 1 or 2 lines that Jens belts out that could certainly take out the whole universe ................
....................I love great, fresh music.............I have never been a Death Growl person........... At least there's a handful of thoughtful musician/singers that have got it right.................

^ Yes indeed - they seem to be a cut above your 'regular' Extreme concoction.....
'I' is (or at least 'should be') an incredible Prog Masterpiece regardless of genre preference. I just don't get why I dig these guys so much - I hate 'Death' sh*t forever, but Meshuggah, at least to my questionable perception, have got it right - can't picture PhilCo or Jon Anderson (or Frank Bornemann or Aldo Tagliapietra.......) singing along to this ferocious music........... so be it - Jens is a total dude........
........maybe coz they're from Sweden ????

.............seems not many Progheads are into these 'Extreme' guys........
I'm blown-out by this imaginary ' Djent' movement of Prog-metal artists.
Over the years, I've heard mindless Tech-Death bands crank out aggressive and furious music, but none measure up to Meshuggah. This mob have done it for me................

1. Soul Burn
2. In Death - Is Death
3. Bleed
5. Humuliative
6. Future Breed Machine
7. Sum
8. Gods of Rapture
9. The Last Vigil
10. Sublevels

I am particularly drawn toward the tracks with contrast and the avant garde undistorted parts. The closing section of In Death is particularly eerie and moving. I would love to hear an entire album of the 3 guitarists doing those sort of pieces.

Its perhaps the only major tech band that i haven't heard yet. Just heard a single song (don't remember the name) 3 years ago. Didn't like it at all. That was perhaps too much too soon. I was just starting to get into the extreme stuff back then. Im ready now..,wud mend it soon.

It takes time - it took me near-on a year to embrace the 'I' LP - instead of switching off to the growl and aggressiveness, I ended up kind of looking beyond that - the music is cleverly arranged and complex, the phrasing of the 'vocals' and placement of syllables etc. to fit with the music is quite difficult to achieve effectively. These guys really work hard and think it through. They still shatter the earth's core, no matter what, like no other. Each member brings an immense amount of personality and style to the music, Jens also being an accomplished Rhythm guitarist. The debut 1989 EP Psykisk Testbild shows them leagues ahead of what was around then - and they were barely out of their teens. Jens even had long hair !!

^ When spelt as 'Meshuga' - it is the Yiddish or Hebrew word for 'Chaos'.
........at least their brand is highly organised........
I LOVE this band
