Harpsichord and the celeste are cool prog instruments  but rarely used !

I would add the Eminent and Elka both fabulous.

I think the RMI electric piano, which actually could sound like an organ because it had a sustain
on its tones, is one of the more used keyboards in early prog.

Mellotron, Hammond Organ, and of course the grand piano. Fairly typical choices, but I love them.

My #1 vote goes to the Mighty Mellotron.  Whether it's Crimso, The Moodies, Genesis, IQ, Cathedral or some obscure French or Italian prog band, I'm a sucker for anything with a tron on it.

Other votes for the ARP Pro Soloist (think Tony Banks mid 70's lead synth sound), Hohner Clavinet (used so brilliantly by Kerry Minnear), Farfisa organ (early Van Der Graaf and Ange), Moog Modular (Emo's beast), Hammond organ, VCS3 (Eno's synth/signal processor), Synclavier (the only thing that could accurately play Zappa's most challenging compositions), Oberheim OB (Geddy's lead synth sound) and Moog Taurus Bass Pedals (which Mike Rutherford used to rattle the roof with on 'Firth of Fifth').  

The only one on the list I hate is the Yamaha GX1.  I would love to have heard "Pirates" with Emo's Hammond/Moog combo.

Awe beautiful post buddy! You touch upon some of my favs as well.

I certainly have a huge appreciation for the Oberheim used by GEDDY, especially for the track SUBDIVISIONS. freaking beautiful! But yes, the #1 is master Mellotron and I blame IQ for that, especially on THE WAKE album.
Anyway. Love your knowledge hear. Didn't know that rutherford used those base pedals. Powerful stuff. :)

Another notable favourite for me is NATHAN VAN HALA's PROPHET 5 keyboard.
It mimics the sound of a grand piano very well. much joy I get listening to that machine of an instrument. ;)

I thought it was KC and the Sunshine Band?
 
Anyway, I'm a sucker for a great Hammond sound, also the choral Mellotron and the church organ as used by Wakeman on CTTE and Awaken.

Many of them were really important to the archetypal prog soundscapes. Given the predictable victory of the Tron I voted for the Minimoog, the Modular Moog, the Piano, the Pro-Soloist and the Prophet-5.
The RMI Electra-Piano was also relevant by its heavy use by Banks (all of The Lamb) and Wakeman, as Prog electric piano I consider it more representative than the Rhodes and Wurly which were used in many other styles as well (a bit same with the Hammond).
As for the Roland guitar synth, I think that the 1980 GR-300 was as relevant as the 1984 GR-700, although it's not always easy to tell since many players switched to the GR-700 but kept using the G-303 as controller guitar instead of the G-707.

I saw Genesis in '77 (SF Winterland) and '78 (Oakland Coliseum) and when Rutherford hit those Moog Taurus pedals in Firth of Fifth I swear the roof was levitating...they were the worlds first sub-woofer LOL
