vote on the one you think is the most technically most proficient group, best musicianship, combination of studio and live preference, who caries their chops most evenly from studio, to live, sorry if i have left out any bands. can't remember everyone.

These are the bands on my top of my head i thought of who caries their music best ffrom studio to live, who have similar live chops as studio chops.

also make a list from most proficient to least proficient band based on musicianship in this list of bands

Imo Yes, GG and Crimson are in kind of a tie... though since Yes and GG focused more on reproducing the studio albums live (from what I've heard) and Crimson more on improvisation it can be kind of hard to compare. Haven't heard too much of GG live either, so I'll have to come back to this one. KC should get my vote as it seems now though, although that of course also depends on what era we are talking about.

The best preformance in any aspect i have seen, was Peter Gabriel IV, 1-oct-1983.
Crimson is allways amasingly strong live.

Is there anyone left on these forums remotely gauche enough to fall for an objective judgement of musicianship?
How does liking musician A over musician B mean one is erm...better than the other?
I know these threads are designed to provoke healthy debate but this is just plain vanilla sillyErmm

IQ for me. Mike Holmes is an incredibly skilful guitarist, Jon Jowitt was a brilliant bass player (and Tim Esau is as well), both Paul Cook and AndyEdwards were top class drummers and Martin Orford was a genius.

Gentle Giant come next (both for breadth and skill), with Dream Theater close behind (technically excellent but little "feel") and Yes next.

Toto, Rush and Genesis are also top class. King Crimson are let down by their guitarist, who I just don't rate, but their drummers and bass players have always been excellent.
A TVR is not a car. It's a way of life.

bands that i sort of let out was Kansas and Porcupine Tree, but Richard Barbieri is my weak link in Porcupine Tree, mainly because i think of him to be easly replaceable, thought the one who have been there second longest after Steven,  and Matlenad and Harrison are both very skillfull drummers, and Colin is a very very skillfull bass player.

I say Gentle Giant as "band" because they didn't have too many changes in the lineup. Saying YES would mean speaking of a dozen of guys, same for KC (Fripp apart).

Of this list, this is probably the best choice, but missing from the list are Jethro Tull and Steve Hackett.

but they always managed to fill the holes for those who left with personnel with equal or even better skillsett then those who left, that is also a important thing i had in mind when constructing this poll, these band recrute people who are on the top of the game instrumentally,  when Portnoy quitet DT people was sure about htat they had to pick from the highest helf in the drummer shelf in the toy department, the pro.Lego techniques +18 sett of lego (drummer vice).

not only was the original lineupp impresive but the people who took over was equaly impressive, Simon Phillips, in for Jeff Porcaro (because of death), Mike Porcaro for David Hungate, Lee Sklar and Nathan East for Mike Porcaro (when Mike got diagnosed with  ALS), and Greg Phillinganes for David Paich (on live shows on one particular time in Daves life becouse if ill sister).
