Suspended In Gaffa - I first heard this song on a really crappy rigged up car radio and I was hooked, gave me goosebumps as it reminded me of a relationship not too long ago at the time that never went further. (1)

Get Out Of My House - chilling really chilling. (2)

The Morning Fog - Kate with THE John Williams, how kewl is that (3) , pretty cool though not as cold as Under Ice.  That whole LP side is a masterpiece concept half album for me.

Lily - "Lily, Oh Lily I don't feel safe
I feel that life has blown a great big hole
Through me" (4)

Breathing - (5) When I discovered the dreaming and fell in love with her music I was only able to go backwards and her third was a great place to go.

Walk Straight Down The Middle (6) - This whole album reminds me of when one of my grandmothers passed away and we (the sibs) went up together for the funeral.  It was blowy cold.

How To Be Invisible (7) - I've had those moments in my life.

Snowflake (8) - This was a hard album to get into.  I got it in winter but we had no snow that year or after the "new" year.

Aerial (9) - a great wrapper upper to a great side.

Be Kind To My Mistakes (10) - from a CD EP.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Moments of Pleasure
Snowflake
Wild Man
The Infant Kiss
In Search of Peter Pan
Night of the Swallow

I've never heard of In My Garden. Is that an early demo? (And thanks for posting a picture from Cathy. I wish I had that book of pictures.)

Very early and thoroughly enchanting, if poorly recorded....this vid also has some great photos.  Kate's childhood was pretty magical by all accounts and I think this song comes right from it.

Never For Ever and The Dreaming are my favorite lp's by her....as far as individual songs.....I'd have to relisten to the older lp's.
I kind of lost touch with her music after Sensual World.

Must admit I'm not a fan of The Red Shoes , but you should check out the song Moments Of Pleasure. Aerial is amongst her very best (probably only behind The Dreaming and Hounds Of Love album wise) while 50 Words For Snow is kind of a strange one. I really want to like it more than I actually do. Still worth checking out though.

1. Suspended in Gaffa
2. Pull Out the Pin
3. Get Out of My House
4. Sat In Your Lap
5. There Goes a Tenner
6. Night of the Swallow
7. The Dreaming
8. Houdini
9. Waking the Witch
10. Violin

I got into Kate through The Dreaming ... and even now none of her other albums compare to me. Certainly it is a singular album among her discography, and none of the other albums have consistently hit me the same way. But she has plenty of amazing songs throughout her career and a top 20 would show a more balanced look at the womens work (although it would probably be 50% The Dreaming)

Might be interesting if people post their favourite video by Kate. I have a bootleg collection of all her videos apart from those done for Aerial (not sure if any were done for the last one). I love Moments Of Pleasure for just its simplicty and elegance.

PLEASE DON'T EMBED VIDEOS AS IT SLOWS DOWN LOADING THE THREAD

She has done some great videos - my favourite 2 are This Woman's Work and particularly Cloudbusting with Donald Sutherland. I too have some bootleg videos on DVD, they don't seem to have ever been released officially.

There is also the Hammersmith Concert that was released on VHS but has never seen the light of day on DVD . I would love to have that and a compilation on DVD. Wonder what's stopping it? Quality issues maybe.

I still have my Hammersmith VHS...an incredible performance...I loved the theatrical aspect.  I too find it hard to understand why a DVD rerelease hasn't happened...

'The saxophone Song' is undervalued in my opinion, and the lengthy instrumental sections at the end of it and 'Wuthering Heights' are two of the best parts of that album.

They'll be nothing from her 50 Words for Snow album, which I absolutely detest.
1)The Saxophone Song.
2)James and the Cold Gun.
3)Experiment IV.
4)The Man with the Child in his eyes.
5)Egypt.
6)Breathing.
7)Wuthering Heights.
8)Feel it.
9)Cloudbusting.
10)This woman's work.

CD was re-issued last year, maybe a DVD is on the horizon...
