Which band do you prefer(if you had to chose one over the other)?Emerson, Lake and Palmer or Gentle Giant?

I guess I give a slight edge to ELP, though I have come to enjoy both. Still, both have some moments that really annoy me too.

ELP for keyboard wizardry, drum wizardry, and a far superior lead voice who kept the band down to earth with his more accessible songs. Really when you get down to it you can't really compare the two bands, they may both fall under "prog rock" but their styles of being out there are pretty distantly related.

Not an easy one. I'll have to think about it. Honestly, I find GG's albums even less consistent than those of ELP. Good stuff spread through a string of albums. I might vote ELP.

Took my a second to find that "even" in that third sentence. Even fans say they can be a bit inconsistent.

I've been into ELP longer so they have more of an emotional impact for me but that doesn't necessarily mean I like them more. Even though I started this I'll have to think about it myself. ;)

Talk of difference of opinions. I find GG far more consistent than ELP. They get pretty weird compared to the other popular prog rock but didn't drop below a level from Acquiring the Taste all the way through to Free Hand.

I love them both...but to answer the poll I asked myself which one could I live without ever having heard? I couldn't imagine my life as a prog fan without ELP so they got my vote.

Gentle Giant easily, one of the most refreshing prog bands. ELP is mostly uninteresting for me.
