Tough choices there-.....the debut is a classic and LA Woman was certainly a much mature work but Strange Days always appealed to me in a....strange way. Wink

I grew up with the Doors music (I was in high school when the first lp came out) ,and I never really saw them as 'psychedelic' per se...but I understand why some would think thst.....they certainly influenced some later  bands .

LA Woman, Strange Days and Morrison Hotel, in that order.

to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

Hi,

Hard to say, as all the albums have something or other that is valuable and really good. Sadly, things that come off weird, and particularly strong, like "The Soft Parade", scare the living wits out of folks here, and everywhere else, because they have no idea what it is about, and what it means, and it sounds either evil or bizarre, and it is neither! It is quite direct and honest, but we like fantasy and ideas, not reality!

All in all, each of the Doors albums has a lot of "filler" in them, probably because of the record companies and the pressure to make sure that they could get a song selected for the radio to be able to play. Funny thing, is that it all started with a song that was much longer, and the AM radio in those days, cut the song, so it came in at 2 minutes and 15 seconds or something like it, and that single, is a collector's item, btw, and worth over $1000 dollars if you have one!

I really think that Jim, did not like radio, and wanted to stick to the "movies" in his head that he could sing about. But we don't see that, because we insist on making all of these just "songs", whose meaning is lost in a land of no belief in anything except money, greed and drugs, not to mention sex!  All of a sudden, the music is a lot less important than it was meant to. And these were fairly well educated folks, and it SHOWED!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

The Soft Parade for me. Though this is partly because a buddy of mine used to have it on vinyl, and it's the one I'd often put on when we hung out.

LA Woman is great but the debut just has to be the best, loaded with great songs including my favourite The Crystal Ship.

Probably my fave song as well. I once told my parents that I wished it played at my funeral, if they for some reason outlived me.

LOL Sorry bout that, it was just to show you how much this song means to me. I still stand by my words, but maybe I'd like to have the live version from the box set played over the studio. Love Jim's voice on that, and man that organ is just amazing.

Real hard to choose, so I'll have to go the sentimental route and pick Waiting For The Sun since it was my first Doors album and one of the first LPs I ever bought. The gatefold sleeve opened up to reveal those dark odd Celebration of the Lizard lyrics, but only the "Not To Touch The Earth" part was represented on the album. Weird. Lots of variety on this album too, branching out almost as much as The Soft Parade, but I find this collection more fun.

that is because Celebration of the Lizard was originally gonna be part of Waiting for the Sun, but because of its apparent 24-minute length (according to a book i read) and the length limits an LP has, it was cut off, not to mention that the band wasn't able to record the whole thing anyway

Voted for Strange Days, though I think their debut and L.A. Woman are equally strong. But Strange Days has When the Music’s Over, and that does the trick for me.

I say nothing is nothing
