Pat Metheny takes it for me this time, with Ant's PP&P VII coming in second. I also think that Tull's Crest of a Knave and Rush's Hold Your Fire are fine albums. Clutching at Straws is my least favorite Fish-era Marillion release.

i don't even think it's hard rock, except perhaps the utterly gruesome Steel Monkey.

Yes' Big Generator and Rush's Hold Your Fire is more 'meh' to me, even though i haven't listened to both albums in their entirety yet. However, they are both my favorites from this weird, too poppy year, at #3 and #2, respectively. The #1 album from this year and the one that gets my vote, though, goes to Pink Floyd's "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" because that is the only album that's proggy in ways by one of the bands who invented this genre to begin with, so yeah.

Imho this is THE best album from 1987:
I was very surprised when I noticed that the CLOUD ABOUT MERCURY is not on the list of 1987 PA ranked albums, as the masterpiece of progressive & space fusion as well.
So I voted for IQ's, because of this very song - piano / vocal version actually, what is simply amazing..
