http://www.muzikreviews.com/ollocs.php "Ollocs is a heavy instrumental progressive band from Long Island, New York. The first three members, Andrew, Russell, and Zach, started playing together in a jazz group. The band was formed when they began writing original music outside of said jazz group, eventually recording a five song EP in 2011. Josh joined on rhythm guitar shortly after, strengthening the band’s sound. With a vast array of influences and a strong commitment to the music, the members of Ollocs genuinely enjoy the songwriting process and performing live. After releasing their debut EP, Ollocs performed at venues all over Long Island, New York, sharing the stage with national acts such Sevendust, Taproot, Eye Empire, and He is Legend. Ollocs continued to write more songs between performances and further developed their songwriting process. They polished and expanded their approach to music, composing songs like “Through Atmospheres,” a minor/harmonic minor whirlwind that tosses the listener into a variety of musical settings with strong dynamic throughout. These new songs were to be included on their planned first full-length release. One of the last songs to be written, their album’s title song trilogy Life Thread,” consists of three continuous tracks that ruminate on the cycle and nature of life - from its start to it’s end. In the course of sixteen dramatic minutes, the title tracks take the listener through a journey that begins with a curious ambience to an odd-timed climactic end that, in a sense, ends where it began. Life Thread, their debut full-length album, was released on October 4, 2013. With 13 tracks that total to about 64 minutes, Ollocs proves that they are more than just your run-of-the-mil rock or metal band. In dynamic, palette, and composition, Life Thread is a daring and successful collection of songs for an unconventional band who are off to a promising start." Russell Frohberg (bass) Zach Vanderberg (guitar) Joshua Travis (guitar) Andrew Bieler (drums, piano) These six tracks (plus the three-track combo in the o.p.), some samplers, the EP versions of five of the songs, and a selection of live videos from 2011 and 2012 can be found at: http://www.youtube.com/user/Ollocs/videos, but of course the whole album can be conveniently streamed at the bandcamp link given in the o.p. Seems like a shoo-in for Heavy Prog to me. Edited by yam yam - November 22 2013 at 05:44 |

Could be progressive metal... but I consider it more heavy prog than metal. Some solid instrumental music. |
