Hey, Guys!
Has there been any movement or suggestion for the admission of AltrOck's new Francesco Zago/Paolo Boota/Elaine Di Falco project/album EMPTY DAYS (self-titled)? An amazing album but I fear it may be rejected because, like the amazing RATIONAL DIET spin-off, FIVE-STOREY ENSEMBLE, it doesn't have drums and it is often very "neo-chamber" in its stylings. Still, it is, in my opinion, another amazing creation of music from the label that supports artists who are truly pushing boundaries and "progressing" music, AltrOck.

It would appear not, until now...unless someone has mentioned it in the collab zone! 7 songs, 7 instrumental pieces. 7 vocal melodies hanging on a delicate acoustic texture, and 7 brief abstract scenes. With the collaboration of various Yugen's members, Francesco Zago focuses on song form and lyrics, building around Elaine Di Falco's unique voice a sonic thread made with acoustic and electric guitars, piano (Maurizio Fasoli), vibes (Jacopo Costa) percussions (Giuseppe Olivini) and thin layers of electronics (Paolo Botta, Pat Moonchy). Two famous pieces by John Dowland complete the cd, reminding the distant but crucial legacy of English songs from XVII century. A delicate collection, sometimes dark and forlorn, with an extreme attention to timbrical and dynamical nuances and musical breath. The cd is embellished by Salvatore Garau's cover, painter and historical drummer from Stormy Six. AltrOck, September 2013. Tracklist: 1. Two views on flight 2. Ankoku 3. Words lurking 4. Kurai 5. Flow my tears 6. Ananke 7. Running water 8. The ghosts of dawn 9. In darkness let me dwell 10. A knife under the pillow 11. Coming back home 12. Waiting for the crash 13. A dark vanessa 14. This night wounds time - Paolo «Ske» Botta / keyboards - Jacopo Costa / vibes - Elaine Di Falco / vocals - Maurizio Fasoli / piano - Bianca Fervidi / cello - Pat Moonchy / electric zen garden - Rachel O'Brien / vocals - Giuseppe A. Olivini / percussion - Francesco Zago / guitars, mellotron, bass Listen to it on progstreaming: http://www.progstreaming.com/_wb/pages/play-album.php?activeAlbum=00602%20-%20Empty%20Days%20-%20Empty%20Days |

Hmm... one of those teaser videos started out with Yugen, which confused me. This is very solid dark chamber music. Whether it can be added is questionable. Bands like Aranis, Art Zoyd, and Yugen make it seem like it might be possible, but this is lighter on the rock than even those bands. I'll bring it to ZART, but this may be more contemporary classical than rock in opposition.

As I feared, destined for the same fate of la musique extraordinaire from Five-Storey Ensemble, Not That City.

Wonderful music, it is a pity it didn't get through this "no drums" criteria :-) Otherwise may be we just miss another category, like chamber/contemporary classic. But then, where it ends? I guess this kind of discussion has already been around for a while. Still, to my opinion, it belongs somewhere here...
