Darlington and Martinsville are tracks that unfortunately are becoming extinct, but are arguably the best in NASCAR.
I've never been a fan of street circuits, other than Long Beach and Monaco. I don't know what it is, but I've just never been a fan. |

Some street tracks are completely micky mouse, like Houston and Detroit, whilst others like Long Beach and Toronto are brilliant.
JPM seems to be having trouble with the red tyres, not finding as much pace on them as everyone else is. Not really surprising as the only time he gets to use them is qualy and the race, no chance to test or practice with them. Still he had top 10 pace in practice so I expect him to go forward. |

Yup. Honestly, my heart was first broken when NASCAR got rid of Rockingham....then every track has been replaced by cookie cutters eventually. And I felt like so much of the tradition and feel has just been removed. I know this will sound funny..but NASCAR got such a corporate feel to it. Anywho, of course I still watch Daytona, the Brickyard, the Road Courses (I was probably the only NASCAR fan who wanted more) and still gotta love Bristol! WOW that's nutty! I love street circuits. Those 2 are classics, but don't forget Surfer's Paradise! Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is another (though I know that's not quite the same) the feel of being on the streets is awesome. Forgot how beautiful Long Beach was. I LOVE that turn around the fountain. One of my favorite parts of any racetrack. Edited by JJLehto - April 13 2014 at 16:24 |

Great battle with the two Colombians Montoya and Munoz. The latter idolized the former. Hope to see him make F1 some day, it's too early to say but Munoz seems quick. He got that 2nd place finish last year in his debut Indy 500.
JPM is making some good progress, top 10 now EDIT: HOLY S**T! That was insane! That may have been one of the craziest things I've seen in a race, the track blocked and drivers just plowing one after another into it... RHR really f**ked that up. Seemed a bit over aggressive on his part. This is heartbreaking, 6 of the top 10 were just taken out. Well, this may have played perfectly into Will Power's hands. Also puts Munoz and Montoya in great position.

Wow, that was just nuts.
Congrats to Mike Conway! I feel awful for RHR, I think he had this race without any doubt, but so it goes... All those yellow laps doomed Power it seems. If it stayed Green no way Dixon could've stayed out so long and Power would still be fresh. Huge congrats to Carlos Munoz who nabbed 3rd just ahead of JPM

Damn, sounds like it was a stunning race. Really wish I could watch it live but paying for a subscription channel (ESPN) on top of a subscription package is taking the piss so I'll have to wait until someone uploads it onto youtube.

Actually the first half was pretty much running in line, like I said RHR was pretty much untouchable, but ever since that nasty wreck things got crazy.
Oh I forgot about this, was awesome to see Dario during the pre race show. Glad to see he seems, at least visibly, OK and with it. Heard he had brain damage from his wreck, hopefully it wasn't tooo bad (for brain damage that is).

No, it was another concussion he got from the crash rather than full on brain damage. The Docs said that 1 more could kill him though as he's had a few big knocks to the head over the years. Pretty much the same situation for his back as well.
I gather Justin Wilson is rather irate with Dixon. |

So Ricciardo's exclusion from Aus has been upheald. A good decision IMO, saves the sport descending into chaos with the teams all self-policing.

Yeah glad it was upheld. We all know the FIA decisions can be questionable at times, but he violated the fuel rule and there's really not much way around that. Ya know? I don't see how there can be a grey area, and even if there was...probably good to air on the side of caution, otherwise everyone would clamor to bend the rules.

The problems with the fuel flow meters and there calibration not being completely accurate, or drifting. A system for offsetting the readings if they think it's drifting, or just wrong, but RB chose to ignore this since it's from the technical directives that Whiting sends out and not written down in the rules. As you can imagine that didn't go down well, with either the FIA or the other teams that have abided by it.

Practice times from China, looks closer than the last 3 races, though I still doubt anyone will beat Mercedes. First race for Ferrari's new boss Marco Mattiacci after Dominicali stepped down earlier in the week.

I sure wouldn't mind seeing the gap close, though this year has been epic so far even with Merc dominating!
Would love to see Nico win a title (hypothetical, not getting toooo crazy here...Vettel will still mount some comeback)
Will be drinking quite heavily this Sat, so might as well pro actively tape the race and not even pretend I'll be up to watch it. OR I'll still be awake due to intoxication and manage to catch it. I'll promise to comment here wasted for your entertainment. Edited by JJLehto - April 18 2014 at 12:38 |

It's still pretty early, but I just don't know if anyone will catch up to Hamilton, including Nico. Everything seems to be dialed in perfectly for him. |

I half kid. I really do think it's a Merc fight, buuuut ya never know. This is Vettel we're talking about! I do think Hamilton is a better driver, but if Nico can at least hang in and fight till the end I'll take it. Of course I would prefer Nico for sure! |

At the moment Ricciardo is looking the stronger of the Red Bull drivers
(didn't expect to be saying that after 3 races!) and Merc had as much as
2s per lap over everyone at Bahrain so I seriously
doubt anyone outside of the Silver Arrows is going to be challenging for
this title. I don't think I've seen a car that dominant since the
Williams FW-14 of '92, it's certainly surpassed the Ferrari F-2004 in
that regard.
First round of the WEC this weekend as well, will be interesting to see how Webber and Porsche get on at Silverstone. Edited by sleeper - April 18 2014 at 18:06 |

Another pole for Hamilton. I think Maldonado's 5 place grid penalty for flipping Gutierrez will be carried over to Spain since an oil leak meant he didn't go out today.

4th pole for Merc, still early but hard to dispute they will be untouchable. I reckon even if other team make headway the gap will be too great anyway. Yikes, comparing it the 92 Williams!? That is a bold statement.
Again, it's early but it does kind of seem Ricciardo is performing better As for the Ferrari battle for #1 so far it's been a snoozer, Alonso has been far superior. Not sure if the deal is with Kimi or the car, (or has lack of being able to handle the car) but maybe all the "Hulkenberg should've gotten the seat!" should put to bed. He may be better off on Force India! Well...there you go then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF7B6oTbwnQ best reaction ever

Well that wasn't much fun to watch, other than a couple of funny radio transmissions. Hamilton will be the 2014 champion and hopefully there's a huge shake up with McLaren, because they flat out suck right now.
