Thought we could do with a new one for the new year, and I'll start by saying "Get well soon Michael Schumacher" as it's now a week since his horrific skiing accident.

Kubica's had a good start to the year winning the ERC opening Janner Rally in Austria  today. He's doing the full WRC with an M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC car entered under his own name, he used Janner as a test run for Monte Carlo later this month.

^I second that.  Although, who knows when he'll come out of his coma.  Best wishes.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a good, less tragic season in all forms.  Top things I'd like to see this year:  a new F1 champion, a "re-born" JPM back in Indycar to contend, Kyle Busch's first Cup championship and some of these younger up and coming NASCAR drivers to make a splash this year.

I also echo the statements about Schumi. Crazy that it's been a week already. Best of luck to him.

Can't wait for the 24 hours of Daytona. I missed it the last two years...I certainly won't this year. (If they still show it without Speed existing anymore that is.)

Daytona's going to be interesting, it's the first year of the United Sports Car Championship (USC) since the "merger" between the ALMS and Grand-Am (more like Grand-Am buying out the ALMS but it has worked out like a merger). Testing at the weekend showed the DP's to be about 1.5s faster than the LMP2's at Daytona but we'll see how it goes come the race.

Indeed, best of luck Schumi.

Here's to a good 2014 season.
Maybe the next new aero package for F1 that will work for 1/3 or maybe 1/2 half the season before Vettel dominates again? LOL

The engines are likely to be more important. I can see working out the grids for the final few races being a real pain in the backside with all the penalties for engine changes that'll have to be dished out.

Crazy start to Rally Monte Carlo today, lots of mud and snow on the stages, at one point we had the front wheel drive WRC3 class Citroen of Sebastian Chardonnet in 4th overall (there's something about that name Sebastian)! Kubica's ending the day 3rd overall, 0.7s off 2nd place Kris Meeke, Colin McRae's former protege, after leading the first two stages. Bryan Bouffier leads by 40s on what is probably a one off drive.

Kubica's crashed out today on "black top" (asphault that is almost pure bitchumin and has almost no grip at all to it), he was all set to retake 3rd from Meeke and was the only person who could match Ogier, who has now jumped into the lead, on that stage until his crash.

Ron Dennis has been made McLaren Group CEO again. He's not the team principle but it does give him a lot more input, Martin Whitmarsh will probably end up loosing his job. May put an end to Alonso wanting to return as well as he really doesn't like Dennis.

I love seeing Kobayashi having a ride again, no matter who it's with.  I love that guy.

First new car launch, the McLaren MP4-29. That anteater nose (to put it politely, you should see some of the names people have been calling it) will be on almost all cars this year due to yet more poorly thought out rules. Lotus seem to be the exception as a 3D render they've released shows them with a walrus type nose. There's been a bit of upheaval at the team recently, Ron Dennis successfully got himself back in as McLaren Group CEO and it seems Martin Whitmarsh has been sacked to be replaced with Lotus Eric Boullier. It's not been announced yet but Eric has definitely left Lotus.

First day of testing, very unreliable. Kimi got the most laps in at 31 (though he did only make it to turn 5 on his first lap) but a lot of teams only did a handful. Mercedes were looking very good until Hamilton had a front wing failure that put him into the turn1 barrier. McLaren didn't go out at all, Red Bull only put in a couple of instillation laps at the very end of the day, Caterham only did 1 lap in what is probably the ugliest car I've ever seen and Lotus wont turn up until Bahrain testing in a couple weeks.

Great to see Kam back!! Crap team but better than nothing. Also I read doctors are starting the process of lifting Schumacher's coma.

I loved reading about Schumi possibly starting the process to come back from his coma.  Great news.

NASCAR has, surprisingly LOL, changed the Chase format again, this time involving elimination stages.  It's like they just don't care anymore about the purity of the sport.  Although, the same could've been said 10 years ago when the Chase first began.

^ I was just going to post about the Nascar news. What a terrible move IMO.

For those interested in the details (which I imagine is just me and Millsy): http://t.foxsports.msn.com/nascar/done-deal-nascar-announces-overhaul-to-chase-format

Also, once again I've missed the 24 hours of Daytona. Didn't even see it listed on Foxsports 1. Anyway, don't know who won but this made the internet.
