3/1 for Crimson...I'm not surprised but objectively this GG album has better production and musicians are simply better. Court is a medicore album by any standards.

One of the most ignorant posts I've read on this forum. In the Court of the Crimson King is NOT a mediocre album just because you say it is. It has been recognized as one of the most important, and influential, progressive rock albums ever released. All of the musicians, including the virtuosity of Robert Fripp whom you clearly lack the foresight and knowledge to even understand the complexities of his style, are world-class. Let's just cut to chase here, Gentle Giant will always be a band that's on the fringes. King Crimson are recognized and acknowledged as one of the most important progressive rock bands of all-time. Gentle Giant, while a talented band, lacked that extra bit of accessibility to push them into the front ranks. Whether you disagree or not, doesn't matter here as history has already been written for King Crimson. Gentle Giant have always struggled to keep their head above water IMHO in terms of international success and influence.

Fripp is NOT a virtuoso. Eddie Van Halen and guys like him are. Fripp not. Not many prog guitarists, especially those who started in the 60's or 70's are virtuosos, maybe Alex Lifeson is, but it's not the most important in that music, is it?

Blacksword, you must also include a virtuoso's ability to play immature songs of teenage lust. That is why Eddie Van Halen is a virtuoso and Fripp is not. Too much thinking and not enough notes.

KC, of course. This lopsided vote is going to get as ugly as the disagreement that leads off this page. Maybe we should make it like T-Ball and have a mercy rule . . .

GG is just not in the same class, as good an album as it is. Court is more than just a great album, it is a era, genre and beyond defining album.

As a whole, I prefer Gentle Giant, but between these two albums, King Crimson wins.

All it takes is one KC-naysayer, and everyone gets their Court in a twist .
I love GG, but KC takes the cake on this one. Now if Acquiring The Taste were involved, I don't think I'd be able to choose.
