Here are four wonderful post-rock songs that i enjoy. Which one do you fancy most? Give 'em a listen and check out each band - they're all wonderful.

I like them too. They're the band that introduced me to the genre. But i wanted to keep the poll limited to 4 choices and thought each band here were great as well.

That Mogwai song is from my favorite Mogwai album, Hawk is Howling, imo it's a 4-5* album. One of my favorite PR albums easily. Relaxing but interesting, ambient yet energetic.

The Sleepmakeswaves track was good, nice use of subtle electronics and a good build throughout. Even when it got heavier it still remained uplifting and positive. Pretty sure they're Australian, right?

The Mogwai track had a brooding stalking quality to it, nice piano too.

Really dug the frantic Magyar Posse one, had this twitchy kind of computer game/eerie synth pop sound along the lines of Goblin! Terrific instrumental run in the finale minute as well.

But I'll vote for the Jakob piece, a slow-burner that even reminded me a little of Porcupine Tree `In Ansentia'-era onwards. Cool floating electronics, very sedate guitars and great drumming too.

Despite liking post-rock, I haven't explored it that much and don't own many post-rock albums (partially cause it has sometimes sounded a little too samey to me, though there is variety), so I'm thankful for the youtubes as this was a good chance for me to explore post-rock music more.  There used to be a meme at Progarchives about "if you don't know post-rock...".  Well, I don't know post rock that well.

 I liked the, I think, quite unconventional from a post-rock standpoint, Maygar Posse track the most.  Has some very nice elements

Thank you for listening and providing wonderful thoughts on each track. 

The Magyar piece is very similar to what you'll hear throughout the album it's one. The piece flows very well and repeats the themes and sounds many times. I've always seen it as a single song with the tracks separating phases and whatnot. I love the vocals prolly the most though. Really hypnotic. The whole thing has a neo/symph vibe to it. 

Too bad the CD is impossible to find.

None of the other tracks come close to the Magyar Posse one for me. MP are one of my favourite post-rock groups. They're not very unconventional really, they just share a strong '70s 'prog' influence along with other bands like Tortoise and The Samuel Jackson Five. Said 'prog' influence could be everything from symph to fusion to RIO to Krautrock. You might like this song from a different album:

I love that track, thanks!  More than the one in the poll, actually.

The MP track in the poll sounded more eclectic than most post-rock I've heard which is why I thought it deviated from more standard post-rock conventions, but I expect that I just haven't listened to enough (don't know the category well enough).

Tortoise has been my favourite band in post-rock for quite some time for Millions Now Living Will Never Die and TNT in particular, and I have yet to listen to Samuel Jackson Five beyond maybe a couple of tracks (I remember liking what I heard of it).

Jakob's Solace is a great album. I knew i wanted to take a song from it but it was hard for me to choose one. Shocked

The album is great all the way through.
