Dear progrock lovers,
I just registered here to find out a) what information and opinions this site contains about Dutch progrock group ALQUIN, and b) with the intention to share some old but just now available 'new' music of this group. I was the original drummer of the band for a little more than four years: from the start (we stil called ourselves 'Threshold Fear' at that time) until spring of 1975, just after releasing the third album 'Nobody can wait forever'. Those of you who own the orignal double sleeved album, will see at the bottom of the interior foto that the title was more or less dedicated to me, as I was about to leave the band voluntarily. I would like to know how (and where) I can best make a new post, especially since I seem not te be allowed to make a new post! I appreciate the help. Best regards, Paul Weststrate

Glad to be the first to welcome you, Paul ! Even almost 41 years after its release, The Mountain Queen is still my favourite album by a Dutch prog band.

Thanks for the welcome and for the compliment!
It certainly is long ago... I joined the band when I came to Delft Technical University - it should have been a hobby next to my study of mechanical engineering - and I had just turned 17, while the other members were already halfway through their university studies and some 4-6 years older than me. The actual news is, that I have guarded for decades a 2 track stereo tape copy of a unique jam session we spontaneuously held in a record studio in Holland on 22d April 1974 (almost 13 minutes long), and I have recently had it digitised. Afther that I made a youtube clip and added pictures, newspaper clippings and other illustrations from the actual recording studio and other ALQUIN memorabilia from that era. Now I would like to share this unique recording with people who might like the music in general or Alquin in particular. The recording is not typical progrock, but it does have a very recognisable Alquin-sound. Is it appropriate and allowed to post the youtube-URL on progarchives? And if so: should that be in a 'general' post or somewhere on or around the band-page? I would appreciate some more help and directions :-) Best regards, Paul Weststrate

It is possible and allowed. This can be done in the Get the Word Out-section, which seems the most appropriate part of this site to post such a topic. The URL may be posted as a hyperlink or embedded by placing the ID of the video between TUBE tags ("TUBE" at the start and "/TUBE" at the end, between brackets).

I'd suggest you send a PM to one of the admins (click on "n New Messages" on the upper left). I don't know if new PA members are restricted to post in some forum sections.
The admins can be found on this page. Edited by someone_else - August 17 2014 at 08:14 |

Greetings, Paul, and welcome!
I am a big fan of early Alquin, especially Marks which is a beautiful and sublime recording. I also like Mountain Queen. "the mind now takes the Soft Machine, cause they differ from Chicago, We will show you what this really means" Edited by presdoug - August 17 2014 at 09:37 |

Try again. I think you are allowed to do so now that you have submitted 5 posts. My mind was still bent on this question. I found this in the Forum section of the FAQ thread:
Only the "Welcome Newbies" and "Welcome Artists"- threads are open to new form members with less than 5 posts. Edited by someone_else - August 17 2014 at 15:13 |

So cool to see the community working together, whenever peeps like myself are away (in more than one sense as it turned out.........but it was fun )
Thanks a lot - and again: a warm welcome to you Paul. |
