2 pretty closely rated debuts on PA, and seeing as both bands commonly appeared at the UFO club around '67 with material from these albums, thought I'd do a poll.

Seriously can't decide myself, both are equally amazing Smile

As an avid Pink Floyd fan, I have to say I'm not fond of their earlier material. From Meddle to The Final Cut is where this band took off IMHO.

Piper, if only for nostalgia value and was the album that got me into Soft Machine in the first place.

Not that SM is anything to sneeze at. The Wyatt/Ayers/Ratledge lineup is one of the my favorite rock trios.

Piper for being the greatest psychedelic record in all of history, of course.

Love the Soft Machine like family, but their debut is relatively weak compared to what came later.  The Floyd's debut is fantastic, so I'll go with that.

Soft Machine. Syd Barrett's work just freaks me out too much.

These results are blowing my mind Wacko I knew Piper got some love here, but better than Soft Machine's debut?? Wyatt would be disappointed.

I can listen through Soft Machine's debut easily, though I can never finish Piper. Interstellar Overdrive is good, though.

I think there's a good chance Wyatt would agree, I know Soft Machine were friends with Barrett and Wyatt played on some songs on Barrett's debut solo album.

...

Which ones? I also have Volume 2 and Third and while I think they're not quite as accessible as the first record, I still find them to be solid records and worth investing a couple of spins with them.

Being a huge Floyd fan I never liked their debut too much. Soft Machine it is.
