Annie Haslam Vs. Jon Anderson

I guess you mean you prefer Annie by only a little bit over Jon? Because there is no way to say if one singer is better than the other as such and if we are talking technically, then Annie is so much better there isn't even much of a comparison.

 

No, no, no, I am just saying the only aspect in which we can actually compare singers at all in a somewhat objective way (which in theory doesn't/ought not to have anything to do with preferences but where sometimes people will move the facts this way and that to make their favourite singer 'win') is how technically accomplished they are.  Again, one singer being technically better than the other doesn't necessarily make them better as such; there are only individual preferences at the end of the day.  Annie is technically way better than Jon, be it in terms of range or power or control, dynamics, phrasing, you name it.  Being that this is Wimbledon season, would be like pitting Marcus Willis against Federer.  She is more 'equipped'.  Of course the listener may still prefer what Jon does with his capabilities over Annie and that's absolutely fine (which is way a musician/band/album can never be better than another in the unqualified sense).  

Sorry if this is all splitting hairs but too much time on the interwebs has turned me into a pedant.

That is assuming of course that Jon is able to sing all those songs because he wouldn't be able to.  Would give him a good chance with I Think of You and Captive Heart, maybe Closer Than Yesterday too and that's pretty much it.  Of course Michael Dunford could have written different songs for Jon with Renaissance-style arrangements since this is all hypothetical anyway.  Would have been interesting.  Jazz guys shuttle in and out of bands.  Rock people should do that sometimes too, just swap singers/musicians at some concerts.  Of course the diehards will cry heresy.
