Maestro Mr Hackett also couldn't resist the beauty of cirkus music..

Quite a lot in my estimation. Wink

What we associate with circus music all stems from this one piece of music:

But played by a small and somewhat not very good troupe of travelling musicians that were essentially a small marching band (drums and brass). The music is usually a march (2/4 time) but can also be a waltz (3/4 time) depending on what act the music is accompanying.

Carnival music is often regarded the same being the same as Circus music as the music played is usually waltzes or marched but here the music is often played by a steam organ (calliope or calliaphone) and looks like this:

Vaudeville, Music Hall and cabaret music is nothing like either of those, however Dark Cabaret (e.g., Amanda Palmer/Dresden Dolls, Emilie Autumn, Gabby Young and Other Animals etc) does sometimes incorporate circus-like music.
What?

If you're looking for a dilapidated carnival vibe, "After All" by David Bowie should do the trick.
He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball!

I find a lot of the Thinking Plague type sound to be like that.

King Crimson's "circus" is an obvious example but there is also:

Shadow Circus by Shadow Circus.

Also, Grobschnitt's "solar music live" has moments that are circus like.

Hello... again.
I have made some researches about IL MONSTRO : it's a french (not spanish) band which has recorded 3 cds. The one I think you would like is called : " Bleu nuit et les silhouettes aux chapeaux". Weird name for strange music, but the most prog-cirkus-enjoyable-jazz you can find !!!!

Hello. I have on minidisc an album from a band called IL MONSTRO, which comes from Spain and is a beautiful blend of cirkus-like music and free jazz, with plenty of wind-instruments. It's not funny at all, being melancholic most of the time.
Another one you should try is the first album of ALAMAINMAN VASARAT : I can't stand my friends shouting : "please, stop this dull cirkus-like music !!!" Very fine cd with influences from Klezmer and east-european music, but with heavy guitars though.

The beginning of "Ifrån klarhet till klarhet" and the ending of "Längtans klocka", both by Änglagård. Might be more carnival than cirkus music though.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Unexpects In a Flesh Aquarium yet, that whole album would fit better than some of the suggestions here (21st Century Schizoid Man?Confused).

Wow !! Another fan of this under-appreciated (minor) gem. Mo's Ricky bass never sounded better.....
Bob Calvert's prescence doesn't hurt either
