Hi everyone !

Looking at the reviews and ratings of this year's albums, I wonder if something has changed about rating system. Only 6 albums so far this year are above 4/5, and only 2 of them have more than 100 ratings. I stopped counting them for 2013 as almost the best 50 albums is above 4/5.

Did the rating system changed ?
Is the quality of prog this year not so good according to reviewers ?
Are people being stricter ?

I think it´s a combination of several coincidenses. Quality of the recordings, the mindset of the indvividual reviewers...and so forth. There´s not mathematical formula to explain it IMO.

Good to be honest, last year was a bit ridiculous with so many albums getting huge numbers of 4 and 5 star ratings. 
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

I do believe that 'yes' - reviewers are harsher, but in saying so, precious few folks see eye-to-eye with my personal analyses - and I do feel that there is no right or wrong with what reviewers have to say about any particular album.
What's a masterpiece for some, is average, if not below, for certain folks. Each to their own.......

I dunno, as a general impression I think it's not your imagination that there have been more harsh reviews.  As far as this year in prog goes, I think it's been a great year.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
