Blue Oyster Cult are a very unique Rock band. Off shoot projects as well. Buck Dharma has released some great material on his own and is very overlooked as a guitarist. Brain Surgeons featuring Albert Bouchard on drums have written some pretty strange songs that are lyrically very appealing to people who have had horrific experiences with cults. Not a considerable amount mind you, but enough to attract the attention of an S.R.A. victim. I feel the same can be attributed to B.O.C. In one particular lyric...it is mentioned that a person walked into a truckstop where every trucker looked like pictures of the Devil. Then it is said that the truckers bought this person 2 beers because they knew what he/she was thinking about them looking like the Devil. Excuse me...but that's just completely strange, moronic, and confusing to a person who is in the shadows with this kind of subject, but to an S.R.A. victim it hits very hard if you understand what I mean? Many of the B.O.C. songs make references to legends that are evil or even legions of demons. There is a definite influence of the MC5 in their music and combined with their own originality they can cause triggers to develop in your mind. I enjoyed certain songs by Steppenwolf ..no doubt..but B.O.C. leave a definite more personal impression on me.

Love me some BOC. Most people only know "the big three" ("The Reaper", "Godzilla" and "Burnin' For You"), but Secret Treaties is their real showpiece - that album can be listened to forever.

No BOC album can be really called bad, even though some of their albums are not as strong as other. Even inferior BOC is light years better than many other bands. So-called "weak" albums like Mirrors and Club Ninja contain a number of excellent songs - unlike abominations such as Deep Purple's The House of Blue Light (and I am a huge DP fan).

Blue Oyster Cult shades it for me. Steppenwolf did some great tracks (love the organ on Magic Carpet ride) but BOC have made many fine albums and Buck Dharma is one of my all-time favourite guitarists.

Who are all these bands influenced by Steppenwolf? To me they sound mostly dated and irrelevant. Perhaps they were influential to the kind of pub-rock that makes me run out of the bar while covering my ears? Not an expert in that field so I wouldn't know. Of course they were once bigger stars (atleast in the US. Born To Be Wild didn't even chart were I come from) but I really think Böc has influenced more bands. Gilbert O' Sullivan was a bigger seller and a star than Nick Drake but the latter artist has certainly influenced more artists.
