Topic: Human Racing and the Riddle - Nik Kershaw Posted: June 26 2015 at 16:38 |
Two amazing albums of the 80s (1984).
Genious music, timeless and full of joy, songs so good and sung so well.
Nik Kershaw is so good.

Very curious how HJ studied Piano at the Conservatorium Of Music, then embarked on his Pop career. Similar about Nik, a guy who could write and arrange with his eyes closed. Admirable how young they were, the chosen direction (which, truly, hasn't aged well), and, how overlooked they have been. I am no Illuminati, but I feel a total 80's acceptance hovering on the horizon...............the 60's were raw, the 70's organic, the 80's plastic, the 90's kinda blended all the sounds with mixed results, post-2000 ironed out the creases and most things have decent production values. I dunno, the music world is an amazing place when I step out of my one-track mindset.

i feel 2010s is å merge of shoegaze, noise, indie, electronica with Neo folk, sort electro-organic combo/mix

i compare Nik Kershaw logicly to Tears for Fears and Level 42 80s sound influenced by jazz, fusion and prog, with no fearof new tchnologi, drum-loops /synth /hooks.

I read somewhere that both Nik Kershaw and Howard Jones owned ELP albums, and I suppose both were fans of classic prog, but decided not to imitate their heroes, but wanted to take their music to a new era.

Yes, new wave. Tony Banks liked new wave, and I wondered in how much he was influenced by Nik Kershaw, also seeing the two of them having worked together.

I am starting to believe, as much as (some of us.......... ) have despised many of these popular, 80's New-Wave acts - many of them obviously had a love of various Prog bands, from Yes, Genesis, to Gentle Giant, Mahavishnu and VDGG. It all comes out in the wash........

whats the reason for that me think, ponder on that i shall, punk vs art rock as main influences to bands, some gravitaed towards punk/glam/techno (Pet Shop Boys), other side liked art rock/ shock rock / psychadelia, Nik Kershaw, Tuxadomon, Talk Talk, INXS.
