Topic: Satyricon - Progressive enough for inclusion?.... Posted: July 05 2015 at 15:21 |
Hi PA, really sorry to add more to the work load but have you ever considered Satyricon for inclusion in the archives? They would go under tech/extreme metal. I couldn't find them on the PA site when I did a search or in the rejected listed on progfreak...
Although Satyricon are classed as black metal I've always considered them to have quite a few progressive tendencies in their music - long songs, acoustic passages, keyboards and synths, clean and death vocals in their later albums, quite varied song structures (its definitely not verse, chorus, verse, chorus type stuff)...
But I know its a slippery slope that you don't want 'any old band' added to the hallowed archives of prog! But would the prog metal team be able to evaluate them though? If you did want to include them I'd be more than happy to write a biography for them - they've been a real firm favourite of mine for ages and I know their history well!
Few examples of their longer / more progressive work;
Dominions of Satyricon (From 'The Shadowthrone', 1994) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlynGPI-9Yg Dawn Of A New Age (From 'Nemesis Divina', 1996) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veN8rO7r6lo The Infinity Of Time And Space (From 'Satyricon', 2013) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0Mr4ZWmgJs The Scorn Torrent (From 'Rebel Extravaganza', 1999) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKzpngkV5-g Immortality Passion (From 'Nemesis Divina', 1996) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNwFyViur4s
I won't add any more to that lot but you should hopefully get the idea. I'm certainly not arguing that all of their stuff is progressive, some is definitely just straight black metal so it might be a tough call. I'll be happy either way, just wanted to at least suggest them. Just send me a PM in a few weeks if they do get the nod and I'll throw together a biography for them - otherwise no worries! :-)
Thanks!!! AndyJ

Hi Andy, I would be suprised if they get accepted, innovative black metal but really doubtful of prog credentials. I don't think they have been formally evaluated so will listen. Thanks
