The Bards of Antiquity is a genre-defying group who re-tells myths and fables through song. Rooted in progressive music, the Bards often put ambience, drone and noise where one would expect guitar solos.
The Bards formed after discovering Ulver, whose music defies classification. Inspired by this, the Bards decided to forge their own path, with an aim to create original, ear-tickling, psychedelic music. They took note of what tools some of their influences had used. "We dissected some trippy, psychedelic albums, such as Pink Floyd's Animals, and the Butthole Surfers' Hairway to Steven," explains Orpheus, "and discovered many of them had an underlying acoustic guitar line, where the vocal parts were firmly nestled over. On top of all that they lay down the weirdness." As the songs began to emerge they developed a slow, ambient, trance-like progressive rock sound, sometimes joined by classical, jazz or folk. "I had written an acoustic piece in high school and used to sing a poem over it that Shakespeare had penned anonymously." Tells Tristan. "Later, as I was playing it, Orpheus began sing a distinctly different and yet similar vocal line. I gave him the poem and that became Frustra." It was during this period the idea of re-telling myths came about. "At first we were simply going to write about the negative side of love, with Bereft being about longing for someone so badly it haunts you. As we wrote more it developed into this re-imagining of Orpheus, and many other similar tales, of the hero going to the Underworld in search of a lost love." The Bards greatly enjoy the creative process, and intend to continue to create innovative, experimental music. The intention is to build upon success by continuing to invest in the furtherance of the sound. https://www.reverbnation.com/bardsofantiquity http://bardsofantiquity.bandcamp.com/ https://soundcloud.com/bardsofantiquity https://www.facebook.com/bardsofantiquity/info/?tab=overview

The 12-track album is called 'Salix Babylonica', and it's on cdbaby.com to buy as a CD or digital download: https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bardsofantiquity. Unusually for that site, the tracks appear to be available to stream in full rather than the normal 1 minute samples, which is good because only six of them are available (and on individual pages too) via their bandcamp. The page at cdbaby says:
"Atmospheric, slow progressive rock with touches of ambience, post-rock, doom, jazz and folk, this album tastefully explores aural landscapes as it tells an Orpheus-inspired story of the search for one's lost love in the realms beyond death." Their music is also available on most of the other streaming/download sites, including Spotify, iTunes and Rhapsody. Tough one to assign to any one sub genre - definitely belongs here though, I think. Thoughts anyone??

We have recently updated our permissions on CDBaby to allow the full songs to be streamed, not just samples.
We would also love to hear feedback/constructive criticism. Thanks for including us here! Feels good, man.
