Ende - Die unendliche Geschichte
is one of my favourite books ever Heart. It is about the importance of fantasy in life, covering a lot of philosophical questions.
The film version from Petersen is so bad, that even the author Ende distanced himself from it.
The philosphical questions were skipped, the silver dragon became a fluffy dog-creature...aaargh... I can go on ranting about it forever. Thumbs Down

Dune
I have not read the book, and there are a lot of film versions on it.

So no vote from me.

Epicness of Grograman and the page where Artax dies, the film doesn't do the extreme sadness justice!

Like both, but preferred the Dune film to The Never Ending Story -- haven't read the Neverending Story book.

As for soundtracks, I'm a Doldinger and Moroder fan more than Toto, but Toto/Eno put out a great soundtrack in Dune, and I don't think Never Ending Story is Doldinger's or Moroder's best work (love Doldinger's Das Boot and Moroder's Midnight Express scores -- both films resonate more with me as well).

I read Dune. I liked the movie when it first came out. I can no longer stand it. The excessive use of narration was a very in-artful way of converting from book to cinema. The acting of the star shudderingly awful. The book is way better. I've seen a better more recent version that spanned the whole trilogy. I don't recall any info about it, though.

It seems like I've seen Neverending Story, but I can't really remember it, so no vote.

As an adaptation of Atreyu's adventures, the film is great. Of course, the whole part about Bastian being involved in the story, has been reduced to a few corny moments, which is a shame, but the second part of the book (with Bastian as the protagonist) would have made a second feature-length film and the film makers obviously didn't have the budget for that.

Ende said he liked the US sequel more than Petersen's film, but I totally disagree with him.
