Born in the woods of Connecticut and raised in the wilds of Boston, lespecial has established themselves as innovators and tastemakers on their own unique trajectory. The aggressive death-funk dance trio explodes with energetic live sets, tapping into a primitive past distorted through the lense of contemporary technology. Coming off the release of their second EP, Ceremony, preceded by Playonbrother Sessions (2011), Jonathan Grusauskas (guitar/keys/trumpet), Luke Bemand (bass guitar) and Rory Dolan (drums) ignore convention, instead amalgamating the familiar styles of Afro-Latin rhythmic traditions, Hip Hop, Funk and Metal into a singular sound that dexterously transforms during their live sets and over the course of their studio albums. As Ben Weiss of Relix Magazine puts it, “Amidst the rest of the noise, lespecial is the squeaky wheel that demands attention.”

I'm surprised that this didn't get a response when it was first posted. It's a very well-put-together, detailed suggestion for starters...and the music is definitely prog.

These lads opened for Tauk at that band's 'Sir Nebula' Album Release party at Brooklyn Bowl in NYC on Sep 16, 2016, and have had some pretty decent reviews for their own 'Omnisquid' album, which was released in November 2015. Here's one very positive review I found: http://lostinsound.org/lespecial-omnisquid-album-review/.

Eclectic Prog is most likely where I'd start the evaluation off too (it's either gonna be either there or Crossover where these guys belong, I feel). Surprised the band isn't more well-known in the prog World than it actually is, despite them being very active regarding their live shows, and having a decent following on facebook too. Maybe I'm just hearing something in their music that really isn't there, I dunno...but personally I reckon this suggestion is well worth a check, guys! Thumbs Up

While lespecial is definitely an experimental and eclectic group, we've rejected them on the basis that too small of a fraction of their discography is actually prog.
