do you think that a best hits album/favorites or w/e is just a ploy for more money? personally i dont like the idea of a greatest hits compilation....the band puts no effort into it and gets a load of cash, sure the band is famous enough to be able to make one of em, but reely, what kind of hardcore fan wants to pay upwards of 15-20$ for a buncha songs they already have?
there is no spoon...

I don't like 'em either, but they can be a good introduction for beginners to bands with long careers.  My first Yes cd was the 35th anniversary "ultimate Yes" compilation.

Greatest Hits seems pointless to me.

if anything should serve as an introduction to a band, it should be a Live album, that shows how they truly sound, and has a solid setlist.

All prog bands cannot have a greatest hits album....as they are album orientated, and most tracks go on and on and on and on and on....................................

I only buy "greatest hits" albums from non-prog bands that I like, but not enough to sit through an album that I won't like two thirds of.

I may buy a greatest hits album for a band that I like, but not enough to buy 3 to 5 of their albums.

Definatly need a box set for them.

Greatest hits albums are dumb i think, some the best songs from any prog band are the ones that didn't get any commercial succes.

The only time I've ever bought a greatest hits cd or lp was if it was a band who had enough good stuff for one album and I didn't want to buy six or eight to get it.

my parents only owned yesyears box set.  i became a huge fans of theirs from this compilation alone. it is incase you missed teh evolution of a band and need to an introduction to their music. if you like that you can go and look at their albums.

I had a reasonable collection of ELP on vinyl, but decided I did not like them enough to go for the CD's album. Instead I opted for a Best of compilation, which contained most of their best-known shorter songs, as well as the complete tarkus.

Queesnryche is a band I started to appreciate on the basis of their Greatest Hits album, and I've bought several ragular albums of the band since then.
