Hello everyone.

Just wondering if any of you guy know any films with progressive rock soundtracks.

I heard In the Court of the Crimson King in Children of Men and it blew my blind...

Yes, there are plenty 80's ninja movies with prog music LOL
For example, here are a Pink Floyd tune and a Tangerine Dream tune in the same scene:

Simply epic...

Watched Hammer's DRACULA A.D. 1972 the other night since originally seeing it in a Santa Barbara Drive-In the year it came out.  I knew Stoneground appeared in the film, but was surprised to hear White Noise, "An Electric Storm In Hell during the The Black Mass/ Resurrection scene.

When I watched another '70s horror film, RAW MEAT, a film I saw with friends in Hollywood originally, tripping... on seeing the DVD I heard music by Second Hand in background radio scenes.

Pink Floyd music appears uncredited in the late '60s film  THE TOUCHABLES.

more examples would turn this into a term paper.
cheers...

The Exorcist is the only case I can think of of being a very popular movie having a very recognizable soundtrack being prog.
I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place

The list of members in progressive and experimental bands who have since gone on to soundtrack composing is quite impressive.  I'm sure there are multiple threads here on the subject.

Don't really know about films that use prog... but I believe prog would be a wonderful option for film music. You can have both the songs used for the calm or more tender scenes, as well as the instrumental passages used for more dramatic or action scenes... perhaps in the very same song. And given how prog artists often do concept albums, well, that's part of what it would take to make a soundtrack for a film. I still would love to see a well done film about King Arthur using Wakeman's music for that very album (at least the orchestral parts... the rock/synth parts would most sureley have to be changed to fit the feel of a serious film).

I've heard it used a couple of times but can't think where. In one of my English lessons, we saw a documentary on some obscure Scottish poet (not Fish), and Sigur Ros' "Staraflur" came on which got me a lot more interested. Also, Hoppipolla has been used endless times in films including the "Children Of Men" trailer and possibly every episode of Britain's Got Talent.

^  ^  ^... and Dead Can Dance used in trailers for new films that haven't been completely scored.  Ridley Scott early trailers sometimes had the same piece for different movies.

my favourite moment is hearing a cover version of King Crimson's LARKS TONGUES in the first, uncut EMMANUELLE movie during an explicit sex show scene.  Smile

Boy, if my memory serves me correctly, that was the original King Crimson music in Emmanuelle.

The music is credited to Pierre Bachelet who did the film score.  The piece is actually on the original soundtrack LPs in two versions.  Tongue

there is a group/artist called "Future World Music" that produces music that is designed to be used in trailers that you watch at the theater.  Have you ever noticed that those trailers often include very dramatic music that is not part of the soundtrack?  There is music especially created for that.  What I heard tends to be very dramatic and proggy, but an entire album of this style is a bit hard to take.

https://www.futureworldmusic.com/about.php

Prog is often very dramatic and very visual, and when I have played prog to people who aren't totally put off by it, that tends to be one of their comments, that it sounds like it could come from a a film

This show called Supernatural uses Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas as there theme music. There are also countless episodes of The Simpsons that use prog rock. Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, and ELP are just a few examples

Werner Herzog collaborated with Popol Vuh on several occasions (most notably in his films Aguirre - the wrath of God, Nosferatu and Fitzcarraldo), resulting in the most intimate relation between moving pictures and progressive rock music (not counting a certain visual pun by Rush) so far seen in movie history.

Italian band Goblins creepy soundtrack to horror films Suspiria (1977) and Dawn of the dead (1978) and Japanese progressive electronic musician Susumi Hirasawas contribution to Animé director Satoshi Kons films Millennium Actress, Paprika and Paranoia Agent are other great examples of OST:s beyond the tiresome Inception horns of Hans Zimmer and co.
