This is one of the few instances where a jazz fusion band that is specifically a fusion of metal with jazz (and in this specific case, jazz, salsa and metal) actually uses horns in their instrumentation (also Latin percussion). Also their live recordings utilize a lot of improvisation. So this is essentially the heavy metal world's equivalent to Santana. (Actually, a Puerto-Rican, metal version of Santana.)

They're on our sister site Metalmusicarchives as an alternative metal band: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/artist/puya, and that's probably about right. They're neither a prog metal band or a JR/F one to these ears, playing music derived from what is indeed an unusual combination of influences, and are thus an interesting band...but not one I'd personally expect to find on a site like ours. Others may have a different view however, but without a suggested sub genre in your topic title, it is unlikely that many collaborators will be drawn towards the thread to check the music out.

Wolrd/fusion mixed with metal, no prog references whatsoever, agree with Dave
