Wu Tang - though everyone agreed to that.
Rap can indeed be poetry - maybe all rap is. But none of these two would be among my top choices if I were looking for hip-hop lyrics/albums to try an convince a professor in literature about it.

You see, NWA's album (along with Public Enemy's second album) is one of the most influentials hip hop albums in hip hop history. It created this template for hip hop artists to make gangsta music. The Wu-tang album is influential, but, the NWA one is more influential.

I like the Wu Tangs but i prefer the solo albums by Ghostface Killa, Genius GZA etc better. 36 chambers is a classic but i don't like the non musical diaglogue. So immature and stupid. I much prefer more musical developed hip hop like Blackaliscious or Kendrick Lamar but i also love old school Ice T, Ice Cube and of course Public Enemy and NWA who really set the world on fire at the time. And of course RUN DMC!!!!!
