Topic: Trying to identify remembered album Posted: November 18 2016 at 20:20 |
Hi folks, Might any of you folks be able to help me with the artist and title of an album. I'm sorry to be a bit vague but it is 30yrs since I last saw this album. A girlfriend of the time had it, I loved it, then we broke up and I could get no more access. I must first also confess that it was a very obscure album even at the time but 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'. It was a triple album, of that I'm sure as it wouldn't go on a C90 so I never managed to get it copied. It was released in the late '70s or early '80s. It was a solo album (+maybe session musicians) by some little known musician. The theme was the birth (as far as I can remember) and development to maturity of some alien species on some far distant planet. The artist wasn't a big name, just someone who came up out of nowhere with a big prog work. Akin to Jeff Wayne except that this guys album didn't hit the big time. I also believe, but not 100%, that it was very synth heavy, probably Moog. I also remember that the cover featured some paintings of the featured aliens doing alien things, also that the aliens weren't humanoid. Sorry to be so vague but maybe this will ring some bells with one of you guys. I can remember that I missed this album more than I missed Carol . Hmmmm...... 'cept that I can remember HER name. Thanks in advance for any help.

I reckon it's Dave Greenslade's The Pentateuch of the Cosmogony.

Mascodagama.... Man, you must be a absolute genius seeing as I got almost every detail wrong in describing it.
The title 'the pentateuch of the cosmogony' sounded familar so I had a look in youtube with it. On hearing the opening bars it all came flooding back.
Triple album.. huh. Non-humanoid aliens...??? And as for describing Dave Greenslade as an unknown, well I'll just go and hide away in shame. As long as I can hide away with my stereo ;)
Many, many, thanks.

Pentateuch of the Cosmogony was
actually the first one I thought of, especially with your description of it
being about the development of an alien species. Mascodagama beat me to it, though!
It was originally a double album
instead of a triple. I have the CD
version, from BGO, which unfortunately doesn’t do the artwork justice, as the
original was meant to be appreciated for the artwork and narrative by Patrick
Woodroffe as much as for the music.

I also immediately thought of "The Pentateuch of the Cosmogony".
Dave Greenslae is no nobody though. he was (and still is) a member of Colosseum, founded his own band Greenslade and made solo albums.
the album should have fitted on a C90 though; it is 81 minutes long

| My pleasure Being quite good at misremembering things myself I figured that not every detail of your description needed to fit exactly.
