Not all of Soviet music was marches and choir works, not all of it was dedicated to the Communist Party. Though, even if some of it was, real gems happened even there.
Once I started collecting all Soviet tunes that can be called hits. I have stopped at the point of 780-800 items, if I remember right.
 
Let me start from this unique compilation of the songs from 1920s-1930s. Here indeed most songs are very politically-influenced. Those were such years...

The "Soviet Bob Dylan" - Vladimir Vysotsky. His appearance at the CBS 60 Minutes TV programme. Notice that he has never been in prison or labour camp or whatever else. Other than that, an intriguing interview.
