Topic: Searching musics Posted: June 17 2017 at 15:12 |
Hello there,
First of all, i want to apologize in advance for my english writing mistakes I could make.
I discovered prog rock (specially symphonic prog) recently with famous bands like Genesis, Camel or even Supertramp, and I instantly falled in love with this blessed kind of music.
Since then, I build a playlist with all the masterpiece I find. Like an explorer, I'm searching all prog treasures that music can offer: http://www.deezer.com/playlist/2506133144
Have you some music proposition, in view of what I like? I really like melodic songs, making you "fly really high" (for example: "1974" from O Terco or "Traveling Minds" from Karmakanic).
Thanks for your propositions.
PS: This site is a real gem, and a absolutely insane prog database.

Try Druid (Toward the Sun is marvellous, but Fluid Druid has its gems). Pendragon (The Masquerade Overture is amazing, but Not of this World and The Window of Life are also very good), IQ (anything). Mostly Autumn (any of their first three albums).

The majority of italian music.. My friend instantly bought Il Volo's Essere album after I showed it to him, very soaring. Tilt by Arti E.. If you want melancholy-powerful, then El Jardin De Los Presentes from Invisible..

Thanks for your advices, but i'm not very fond of "jazz" style prog rock. I really like when it's harmonious, melodic and in major tune (I'm not sure I'm really clear :) ). Anyway thanks to have taken a little of your time to answer me.

Hey, no problem!! Your taste of music can change like waves as time goes on. I didn't used to like Prog Folk, but then I heard Gryphon. I didn't like Frank Zappa much, but I bought Uncle Meat on a whim and was blown-away (and that sent me off on exploring EVERYTHING Zappa..) Didn't like Henry Cow till I heard their debut.
Some albums that are under the "Jazz" reign aren't strict jazz. Maneige's Les Porches sounds like a beautiful film soundtrack, most of M. Efekt's stuff is ever-flowing organ and synth-driven epic pieces

If you like Genesis at all, try SVěT HLEDAčůfrom M. Efekt. It's their most symphonic album, and I've loved the album for 5 years, since I heard it in High School it's been a special one for me.

I guess you should check out the whole top 10, if you're still missing some of it, and then go for the next 10 at least. Then, given the bands and genres you may like, you can narrow your search of lists for certain criteria.

"I really like when it's harmonious, melodic and
in major tune (I'm not sure I'm really clear :) )." The last part wasn’t clear, anyways here's some more harmonious, melodic recommendations: Beggars Opera - Passacaglia Flower Kings - Theme for A Hero (Swedish like Kaipa which it
seems you are fond of ) Gravy Train - Staircase To The Day Gryphon - Lament Haikara - Luoja Kutsuu Pentacle - L'ame du guerrier Premiata Forneria Marconi - Impressioni di Settembre
Twelfth Night - Human Being

Since you liked O Terço, you might enjoy Bacamarte, check the album called Depois do Fim, it's awesome.
Some tracks i recomend to you: Beardfish - If We Must Be Apart Big Big Train - Keeper Of Abbeys Opeth - River Anekdoten - Shooting Star Astra - The Weirding Shamblemaths - Conglomeration (Or: The Grand Pathetic Suite)
and if you like some metal with some psychedelic/progressive elements, try Mastodon - The Last Baron, this song is a trip.

I guess prog metal in general... I don't know what particularly is that you liked about Ayreon. I go with the usual prog metal suspects, though: Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Riverside, Devin Townsend. Or not so prog, but definitley into the metal-opera thing, Rhapsody (of Fire).
