Young Prog-Rock enthusiast looking for a community to talk all things rock, so I came here!

Although I always listened to stuff like Pink Floyd, I never really knew of the Prog label until some years later, when I was introduced to YES. After that, I started to become big fan of things like Gentle Giant and King Crimson.

Recently saw King Crimson live for their "Radical Action..." tour, and it was superb. I am currently forming a band of my own, aiming for a Prog feel.

I don't know what else to say, but I'd thought I would list my top 10 Prog bands to maybe let someone open a door to even more.

  1. King Crimson
  2. Yes
  3. Soft Machine
  4. Van Der Graaf Generator
  5. Gentle Giant
  6. Pink Floyd
  7. The Moody Blues
  8. Marillion
  9. Opeth
  10. Dream Theather

I know 9 and 10 are Prog Metal but Its still Prog darnit!

    Thanks to you all.

Hi there, and welcome !

Poland has excellent Prog acts - how come you don't mention even a single band from your country ? (maybe top 20 ? LOL)

Great to hear! Which is your favourite Finnish band? As you can see mine is Wigwam, which is also my favourite band in the whole world at the moment. Also noticed about my progband lists that I forgot Procol Harum too which I have loved also quite a long time.

Alamaailman Vasarat is good, but I think there are greater bands and artists in Finland, for example Wigwam, Tasavallan Presidentti, Haikara, Pekka Airaksinen, Piirpauke, Tuomari Nurmio, Sielun Veljet, Kauko Röyhkä & Narttu, Circle, Absoluuttinen Nollapiste, Risto. Have you heard some of those?
