I think it's much better than the albums Genesis released in the 80s.

Ah, you mean that album by Cinema?
You realize that they were going to name themselves Cinema, and it was
going to be sort of like Asia? Then Anderson came on board and they
realized that they didn't need to re-make their fame, they could just
rest on the old Yes laurels.
So, like Asia, they made a pop album with a prog lineup. It is a
well-produced album as such things go. Tight performace and clean
sound, plus some nice musical ideas. But it's not even close to
Prog, and it sure as heck isn't real Yes.
I've always thought alimony payments had more to do with this album than anything...

It's not exactly prog, but it's one of the best 80's pop/rock albums I know. The arrangements are cleverly done and quite original in most cases, if you can listen through the 80's soundsauce. In fact I think they never produced something more creative afterwards (well, maybe ABWH or The Ladder, which were at least proggier).
On the other hand... I very much prefer their 70-77 less confined musical output.

on 90125. i'll try to shorten my message, that i have in my head. first of all, i agree that 90125 could be a great album, but it must be considered not like an album in it's quality alone, but in the prog context. it's illogical to make arguments that other prog giants released even more obscure records and thus this yes album is good (u understand wht i mean;P). second, in my humble opinion, people who loves this album, listen to it through "magical Yes historical importance" headphones. i mean you know that Yes is, well YES, so and you and I consider this album with already formed attitude, very subjective. in conclusion, everything undergous perpetual change, so i don't expect Yes to be eternally "the best". every band has their crap. thank you very much

True, however, I still do not take the slightest liking to it.

I don't think that it is that bad, I would rate it 3.5 stars

I think it's actually a very good pop album. I wouldn't rate it in a prog context, though, and I don't think the quality of the album compares to the likes of Close To The Edge or Going For The One, but for what it is, the cd is excellent.
I still prefer Big Generator over all the other Yes-west releases, though.

I got a copy some days after its release from a bro-in law who brought it from USA..first I was confused about the line-up.. "where's Howe and The Buggles?..who's this Trevor Rabin? ..what happened with Roger Dean?..what a sh*tty cover.. ok..it's brand new and a gift so let's listen to it cause Anderson is back and Kaye!" Leave it and Owner of a lonely heart were the songs I always skipped after the first listen so both were and still are crappy for me

Yes, crappy (pardon the pun). No Bruford, no Howe (parrdon the pun), no Dean, waste of time. Move on.

I was listening to this on the way to work today. It was the first time I'd listened to it for a couple of years. It's a great album. It's got a bright, positive and inspirational feel to it. Rate it ****

As with Open your eyes, Yes tried something never done before by them with 90125. And they succeeded in penning a huge hit with Owner of a lonely heart, plus other outstanding numbers(the wonderful Changes with its multiple sections nad its two lead singers, the amazing Leave it with gorgeous vocal harmonies, the beautiful and brief instrumental Cinema, the powerful Hold On and It can happen) My rating: | I agree, if you want it to sound like early and mid period YES, it will never be the same band. But then again Wakeman couldnt ever do as good of job as Moraz did on just one album. That it was a commercial success, more power to it. I mean hey chicks like it! Anyway I think its not as good as Relayer and better than Close to the Edge or Fragile. I think these 4 albums represent the YES idea best. Totally unique and lucky to get it in the early 80's due to the record companies strangehold on the progressive idea.

It is one of the best of the prog albums of the 80s. Not quite as good as their 70s material but not far off

I liked it a lot when I was 15 (the year it came out) but I really don't think it's aged that well... 3/5 from me... I'd rather put Drama on these days, if I want so 80's Yes...
